For all the talk of independence, freedom and liberty the truth is that conservatism is a belief socially centered in conformity, overwhelmingly one faith, overwhelmingly one race, terrified of difference and more than willing to use the law to oppress those who might show a different sexual preference and ensure they don't do anything as different as marry someone of the same sex.
More than willing to use the law to oppress real and imagined communism in "witch" trials in an attempt to intimidate people into believing in one economic system.
If we were conformists then wouldn't we all be jumping on the bandwagon with the libs about gun control? It seems the only ones using laws to oppress are the democrats. However I understand it is the liberal way to do something and then say it was actually the conservatives.
Conformism dictates people acting in such a way to as to remain strictly part of the group or clique, thus the fact that conservatives have opposed gun legislation proves rather than disproves the point, personally I am still slightly pro guns even after Sandy Hook.
Absolutely wrong.
A true conservative holds the individual as the highest authority.
It seem 'liberals' like to place the individual inside some sort of group so that the group can be attacked with impunity. The actions of the individual are that individuals responsibility only, but it is easier to vocalize a prejudice at a group.
And yet none of what you wrote presents a substantiated argument to counter the facts of conformity already listed above in the OP.
The OP is one's personal prejudice of which you have every right to display!
While the OP may present a personal bias/opinion it substantiates it with facts, ie religious, racial and sexual orientation conformity in conservative demographics. Your reply presents a personal bias/opinion with no substantiation, see the difference?
You are wrong. I believe most religious fundamentals could be classified as conservative. A real conservative cares not what an individuals sleeping arrangements are, or anything else for that matter.
I am a pagan.
I support an individuals right to live their life, how they please, as long as they do no harm to others.
I fully support the underground barter system.
So, your op is strictly an opinion with no basis in fact.
One step better, now you have provided some attempt at substantiation but it is based on the personal rather than on demographics as the conversation is and as such is irrelevant.
The basis in fact is provided in the OP in the form of statistical conformity in the areas of race, faith and sexual orientation.
I know, you want to place every conservative into a group and then proceed to bash the group. Kind of the same thing you accuse them of doing.
Respect the individual. it is the mainstream goal of modern conservatism.
LOL, no we are like minded individuals.
I think we have sufficient differences to preclude the accusation of conformity, not so the conservative movement.
Really? Liberals are nothing if not conformists. Its almost as if you all have the same handbook, debates are not debates they always end with the conservative being a racist or control freak.
I am not even a liberal so I think that somewhat precludes your point but again no substantiation, arguments can't be taken seriously without proof.
Not calling you a liberal. The proof is all over these forums.
I am a leftist no doubt but since I am not a Keynesian economist but an Attleeist I am definitionaly not a liberal. Basically a complicated way of saying I am some kind of heinous socialist and if you look carefully you will spot the horns
I'm forced to laugh at this idea that you are a scummy liberal but I am all for liberty!
It doesn't say much for the American education system does it?
And we are back to no substantiation at all... *sigh*
I just finished "The Tenth Parallel" by Eliza Griswold. Not only an excellent book, but very eye opening how two factions, both very conservative, are engaged in battle all over the world, yet deep down, their beliefs are very similar.

Only 9 out of 193 voted against granting statehood to Palestine and across Europe massive marches demanded their voice rather than American political pressure decide the vote of their nation.

In discussions here on HubPages, a common topic arises when discussing the media. In most circles, people believes what they read and see on TV. That is why we Conservatives don't trust the media for providing the truth...because we know who we are and the media is mis characterizing conservatives...

Isn't this a basic conservative principle of government? If you live on a coast, you should assume the full responsibility of the things that come with living on the coast, including hurricanes. If you live in Texas or Louisiana, it's practically a given that there's going to be flooding from some...

It appears that modern conservatism, built on ideas of ideas from William F Buckley, Ronald Reagan, Barry Goldwater, Leo Strauss, Russell Kirk, Joseph McCarthy and the like...formed those ideas as a result of the civil rights movement, or rather, their opposition to the civil rights movement....

"Many of my fellow conservatives have an almost knee-jerk hostility toward gay marriage. This does not make sense, because same-sex unions promote the values conservatives prize. Marriage is one of the basic building blocks of our neighborhoods and our nation. At its best, it is a stable bond...

Although there is some Jan 6th content in the source of my quoted blurb, I admit the title is clickbait for the most ardent. The source article's bias is very conservative, and many of its claims are very debatable, (they are the opinion of the speaker, not a claim accepted as fact), and you might...
