   For all the talk of independence, freedom and liberty the truth is that conservatism is a belief socially centered in conformity, overwhelmingly one faith, overwhelmingly one race, terrified of difference and more than willing to use the law to oppress those who might show a different sexual preference and ensure they don't do anything as different as marry someone of the same sex.
   More than willing to use the law to oppress real and imagined communism in "witch" trials in an attempt to intimidate people into believing in one economic system.

      If we were conformists then wouldn't we all be jumping on the bandwagon with the libs about gun control? It seems the only ones using laws to oppress are the democrats. However I understand it is the liberal way to do something and then say it was actually the conservatives.

         Conformism dictates people acting in such a way to as to remain strictly part of the group or clique, thus the fact that conservatives have opposed gun legislation proves rather than disproves the point, personally I am still slightly pro guns even after Sandy Hook.

   A true conservative holds the individual as the highest authority.
   
   It seem 'liberals' like to place the individual inside some sort of group so that the group can be attacked with impunity.  The actions of the individual are that individuals responsibility only, but it is easier to vocalize a prejudice at a group.

            While the OP may present a personal bias/opinion it substantiates it with facts, ie religious, racial and sexual orientation conformity in conservative demographics. Your reply presents a personal bias/opinion with no substantiation, see the difference?

               You are wrong.  I believe most religious fundamentals could be classified as conservative.  A real conservative cares not what an individuals sleeping arrangements are, or anything else for that matter. 
               
               I am a pagan.
               
               I support an individuals right to live their life, how they please, as long as they do no harm to others.
               
               I fully support the underground barter system.
               
               So, your op is strictly an opinion with no basis in fact.

                  One step better, now you have provided some attempt at substantiation but it is based on the personal rather than on demographics as the conversation is and as such is irrelevant.
                  
                  The basis in fact is provided in the OP in the form of statistical conformity in the areas of race, faith and sexual orientation.

   I just finished "The Tenth Parallel" by Eliza Griswold.  Not only an excellent book, but very eye opening how two factions, both very conservative, are engaged in battle all over the world, yet deep down, their beliefs are very similar.
