Should racist/fascist parties, groups or individuals be allowed to speak in public?

Should the BNP have been allowed on Question Time? Should groups such as the EDL be allowed to demonstrate? What do you think are the consequences of allowing fascist/racists to put forth their arguments?

Well the question you have to answer is 'Do I believe in Freedom of Speach?'. If you ban such organizations from speaking then the whole concept of freedom of speach goes out the window. The only thing you can do is to allow them to speak, but ensure that those that listen have the the end of the day if people are going to listen to these speaches, then they probably would seek them out if they were forced underground....

It's like the old saying, 'Keep your friends close, your enemies closer'.

I am a firm believer and supporter of the freedom of speech concept. If I, personally, do not want to hear what you have to say or simply do not agree-I do not have to listen, but the answer is yes, they should be allowed to speak in public. I think the consequences are varied depending on the group, but overall they will either gain or lose supporters of their cause based on their comments and representation. In some instances there may be adverse effects such as people in protest or opposition to their views, though this too is part of our fundamental freedoms.

As much as such groups disgust me, I would agree they should be allowed to speak.  If Freedom of Speech only includes speech in which I agree or speech that offends no one, then there is no Freedom of Speech.

"He who dareth not offend, dareth not speak the truth."

If they aren't, there are some other racist/fascist parties, groups or individuals that should also not be allowed to speak.

For example, Mexican La Raza, reconquistas, black power, femi-nazis, socialists, communists, Democrats, Republicans, welfarists, PETA...  in other words all the commie/fascist racist/fascist parties, groups or individuals.
