I cant speak for the United States and what should be done, however it is a logical step. Illegal aliens are in the country like it or not, and they are not leaving.

By making them step up and be counted, it means that the US can not only gain an accurate picture of how many there are, but legalize them and get them paying more taxes. I can imagine that it is not a popular step with a great many Americans though.

If it goes through,I would imagine it would be followed with a toughening up of immigration laws and a boosting of funding for better border controls to make it much harder for more to enter.

This happened in Spain fairly recently, with an amnesty which highlighted significantly more illegal immigrants that were anticipated. A great deal of them were working illegally, and paying no tax on earnings.

Absolutely not without having secured our borders first. If we can secure the borders, and the numbers can affirm that nearly 95% or better of all illegal immigration has been curtailed, THEN, and ONLY THEN should we consider allowing those who are here already to have a path to bonafide citizenship.

What would be required would be to learn english, take civil courses, and pay a fine for having entered the country illegally.

This is not my own idea BTW. Charles Krauthammer, a brilliant columnist had this in mind, and it's one of the best ideas I've heard to date on the subject.

Part of the idea here is that the logistics of deporting the tens of millions of illegal immigrants in lieu of amnesty after securing the borders would be a nightmare. It would also be an extremely costly measure as well.

To provide amnesty BEFORE securing the borders would be an invitation for more illegal immigrants to enter the country seeking the right to live here.

in my life time that i know of they have already done this about four times.  about every ten years or so. ya know people are talking out of both sides of their mouths. they say they they don't want them here. then watch and see who is mowing their yard cleaning their house, the hotels and now getting to be construction and more. if they didn't get jobs they would not be here.  so someone is hiring them. if he does or doesn't , i don't think will make one bit of difference in our lives.

Certainly NOT! We need to secure our borders, change immigration laws and by doing so we make America a safer place for people to migrate to the correct way!

The amnesty card was played in 1986. It did not work. We now have many more illegal aliens in the country. Secure the border, enforce the existing laws and then MAYBE we can consider it.

Not under any circumstances. No. Absolutely not.
