Are there still some dos and don'ts of table etiquette?
How important are table manners? Are you the kind of person that thinks everyone should eat with a fork and knife? Do you think the napkin "has" to be on the lap? What are the biggest, most important dos and don'ts?
Hold your utensils correctly, they are not shovels. Do not chew with your mouth open, no one wants to see that. Do not talk with food in your mouth, no one wants you spitting food their way. Yes please, and no thank you are still pleasant things to hear and say, do not leave the table until everyone is ready to leave the table, when you leave the table take your dishes with you and rinse them off, your mother does not work here, go back and help put things away so everyone can relax sooner,
and finally if you disagree, you are a selfish dolt, you are not the only one at the table, get over yourself and feel welcome to dine with the dogs on the back porch and let the civilized people dine without your annoying-open-mouth-food-chewing-presence.
I am particular about 'No elbows on the table'. And no chewing or speaking with your mouth open! And no biting your utensils.
