What Does Is It Take To Really Be Free?
What does it take to have freedom? What are the consequences of being to free? At times, rights of other people are abused under the guise of freedom or to maintain freedom.
We can start with reducing the number of superfluous laws. Laws that outlaw victimless crimes have given us the world's largest number of convicts. Why not have laws mandating where and how drugs can be used, like alcohol, rather than banning them completely?
It first requires a desire. It then requires the courage to be your own person, think your own thoughts, and take your own direction. No matter how physically free a person may be, if they are yoked to the opinions and actions of others, freedom will never be theirs. At the same time, a person who is totally incarcertated and isolated from mankind can be free in his mind by simply developing the attitude and mindset to be his/her own person and not be swayed by the intentions of others. That has nothing to do with obeying the law, following ethics or morals, etc....freedom is not about those things. America is a free society but so many people within it never experience true freedom because they never think for themselves. They never venture out beyond the limitations that others set for them thus they may as well be in a cage...freedom is lost on them due to their attitude and lack of awareness. WB
