Is Obama pulling out of Iraq just to fulfill a campaign promise to secure a re-election?
The U.S. Army agreed to drop to a force of 10,000 in Iraq. Pres. Obama's crew is only giving them 3,000, which is barely sufficient to secure a major city. There is no feasible means by which to maintain a reaction force or mobile reserve with such numbers. Is this going to get more people killed? Is this just a ploy by Obama to secure a re-election at the last minute?
Well, there are a lot of maybes here. The US needs to get out of Iraq sooner or later unless its wants to be stationed permenantly there. Obama might just be re-elected though this could be doubtful. There is a lot of speculation here, but America needs to think of the long-term fatigue it is creating by staying eaglespread across the region and that includes Afghanistan.
I agree that our troops have long overstayed their welcome. In all honesty, we should have left Afghanistan and Iraq long before I ever got there; 2006 and 2007 respectively. It occurs to me that this is by no means an orderly withrawal. I'm not sure who to focus my anger on at this point; politicans or commanders.
