Is it worth it to buy organic for everyday household products like sunscreen and perfume?

There's lots of information out that that suggests that there are bad chemicals in this stuff.  What do you think?

Totally!! A 'normal' perfume can have up to 200 different and harmful chemicals in it for a start.

Cosmetics (waterproof mascara for example has mercury in it) and toiletries aren't much better with most containing chemicals like parabens and SLS (sodium laureth sulphate) which have links to cancers and reproductive organ damage among many other problems.

Don't be fooled by the name of the product either...check the ingredients lists to make absolutely sure. If it's not organic it will no doubt have pesticides in it which are a cocktail of harmful stuff including mercury and as we absorb roughly 40% of everything we put on our skin into our blood it's VERY important to check carefully.

One last thing...please also be aware of the affect of chemicals to those around you. Even just walking down the road something like perfume or other sprays that you might be wearing can trigger asthma attacks and other reactions for others.

    Hope this has helped! smile

Yes! I stopped using perfume years ago and haven't used it since. As far as all the every day lotions and such, I published a hub recently that addresses this topic. … end-or-foe

You definitely need to be an informed consumer to protect yourself and those you care about.
