    Have you ever lived off the grid?

    If yes, why did you stop.

    I had some friends who wanted to live off the grid in California, but couldn't. They said it's actually illegal here. That was 7 or 8 years ago. They moved to New Mexico instead, and built an earth home underground - completely free of the grid. When I saw them later, they said it's save them a lot of money and their house temperature stays steadier too. Believe it or not, in the wee hours of the morning in the dead of winter he would have to open windows, because the earth itself was too hot to sleep.

    yes i have. i did it for about 7 years. i stopped living like that because i decided to take things into my own hands and fix the problem that caused me to disappear.

    Yes indeed, during a couple of summers commencing in 79 and ending in 81. Primarily from May through August). I stopped because of the end of summer (i.e. the approaching cold weather combined with returning to university)... Although I should mention we were off the grid and not on any other energy source...
