What should we do to help the survivors, what are you doing to help survivors of Hurricane Sandy?
We were without power for 4 days. We have been cleaning up our home and yard for days. We have thrown out over $300 worth of food and supplies. There are gas lines and the stations are gouging us with prices going from $3.81last Monday to $4.25 yesterday. With all that we are blessed to be alive. Relatives on Long Island are still without power. Family in South Jersey, Brooklyn and Staten Island still haven't been heard from. But my/our main concern is what can we do to help others in need. Texting REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 was the least we could do. What other suggestions do you have?
DoSomething.org is also taking donations and they recommend that if people can't do anything else to help then donating to their local food pantrys help out because much of the food donated to the people effected comes from food pantrys so donating to your own will help feed your locals allowing more to go toward storm victims...I said that in a round about way but it's something like that.
I donated food to my local pantry because I couldn't do anything more at this time.
Hi SEXYLADYDEE! I am praying for a speedy restoration in getting their lives back to normal. This is something we all can do because there is power in prayer. We can of course donate if we can and where we can. Thanks for asking that question!
I too strongly believe in prayer. But also that we must love our brothers & sisters, the way we love ourselves. Love is a verb, an action word. Thank you. Dee
You can volunteer to work with the American Red Cross. I am a Disaster Services volunteer with Red Cross. Volunteers do a lot of training so you may not be able to work directly with the Sandy disaster but there are disasters every day in your area and around the world that the Red Cross helps with.
Since I have a full time job I only work local diasters right now. I get called out when something happens in the area like a single family home fire, apartment fire, tornado destruction, or flood. We provide food and snacks to the victims and emergency workers and assist the family to make sure they have a place to stay, food, clothing, etc. It is extremely rewarding.

Not all of us have the luxury of uninterrupted electricity supply. In this post, I invite creative thinking from people who reside in areas where electricity supply is almost a given. Answer me this:What would you do if there was no power for the entirety of a 24 hours? Some people might be used to...

A storm went through northern California. We were without electricity for six hours. I worked a bit on my Android, and I tried a hotspot for my Chromebook. It was not easy going. What do you do when the electricity goes out, and you need to be online?

Hurricane season starts in a few weeks. How long could you go without power in a weather event?Do you have essentials? For example, if there was a hurricane that knocked out power in your area for a couple weeks or more, would you need to ask for assistance from others or could you get by? Let's...

What does it mean if you get MINUS number of views? In the last 24 hrs I got 2 views altogether. (What google traffic there was - probably only around 18-20 views a day - disappeared on 29 September.) I decided to check "traffic sources" from my account page, only to find that one view...
