America has been referred to in the past as a “city on a hill” by Ronald Reagan and JFK.
Also John Winthrop said, “The eyes of all people are upon us, so that if we deal falsely with our God in this work we have undertaken and so cause Him to withdraw His present help from us, we shall be made a story and a byword throughout the world.”
Do you view America in its present condition as still being blessed by God, or do you tend to agree that God has withdrawn his blessings from America?
We are a hollow nation. A pretty face with an ugly inside. We shout about freedom while we lock up the masses, talk about peace while we bomb innocents. Our supposedly free press spews corporate newsletters. We squander our great opportunity on vapid entertainment. With the world at our fingertips we choose to learn nothing about it. We talk about Christ yet don't seem to mind that we have turned Christmas into a great consumer whorextravaganza that makes Gomorrah look like a village of virgins. The only God blessing us is the God of Profit.
Even if we were this city on a hill, it is only arrogance and pride that would proclaim such. Whatever happened to humility? Does anyone actually read the Bible anymore? "A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren." These days, we accomplish all of that before breakfast is over.
