How do you feel about the celebrations going on over Margaret Thatcher's passing?

What does it say about society when parties are thrown in the street to celebrate the demise of a political icon?  Is it acceptable regardless of political leanings?  Please state why or why not.

I don't like it personally.   She was important and involved in things that changed the world for the better.  She helped bring the Soviet Union down so therefore helped end the cold war...which in turn brought down the Berlin wall.   At least I see her as being involved in this way.  She was a strong woman.  Had she been a left leaning politician I bet some of the comments would be more favorable or at least muted somewhat.  There was nothing wrong with her.  She stood by her convictions.  She had traditional leanings---nothing wrong with that.  It is the liberals attacking her---had she been someone like Hillary Clinton, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, etc. they would be singing her praises.  They are celebrating her death more than Saddam Hussein's or Osama Bin Laden's---totally disgusting!

Too true, especially at the end.  Society is getting anything but civil.  Thanks for responding.

Celebrations?! That woman was one of the best leaders England has had. The man who took over after her has harmed the country and pushed them down the hill every step of the way. I'm appalled they would do such a thing! But then again, it is the current society. Most of society voted for Obama as well... I hate being disappointed with society, but it continues to occur.

Thanks for the response.  I will never get it, but it seems many don't find the behavior disrespectful at all, or so they say.  I suspect if it were a leftist leader, it would be a different story.  I find it shameful from anyone.

    It's deplorable.
I lived under her term of office and saw her work at first hand, I disagreed with most of it but I still respect her as a politician and human being.

It really is.  I could not get over how happy those people looked.  A woman just died and they're ready to get their party on.  I suspect many of them have zero political knowledge and just used her passing as an excuse to behave like idiots.

These would be the same people who cried over the death of that loon, Chavez.. It illustrates the leftist mindset, they equate any person to do with capitalism as a great evil.  When Thatcher became PM, I think Britain was just in awful shape because the unions wouldn't allow anything and practically everyone was on welfare.  It was a dying society.  The leftist celebration is bad taste, but there's nothing you can do about people with bad taste except ignore them.  Besides, history will not bother with these people but will remember Thatcher.

I hope you're right about the history part.  I worry one of those fools will be writing it soon.  Thank you for a thoughtful response.

Poetvix, I think Thatcher is laughing at those silly people.  She's been away from politics for so many years and she is still able to rile them up.  Good on her!

I didn't agree with many of Margaret Thatcher's policies, but celebrating a person's death in the street is pretty crass.  If you want to have a go at someone, do it while they're still alive and compus mentis and able to answer you back.
