The idea of multiculturalism is simply a weakening point of a society, it means that we sit in our own little circles and develop our own complaints about what's fair and what's not. Really it only creates division and subservience of races. People used to come to America and put off their old crappy cultures that they escaped from to become Americans. Some even changed their names. America used to be attached to the hope that if you worked hard you could achieve your dreams. Now it only means a free check to most immigrants.

I agree with some aspects of your answer. However there have always been areas known as "Little Italy or Chinatown" in major cities. These places had their own newspapers and the areas were steep in their culture. Latinos also cling to their culture

Good points, Onusonus. Being an American isn't about being a German-American, Chinese-American, Mexican-American or whatever else. Becoming an American used to be about adopting our way of life and embracing the values upon which we were founded.

I think the Time tittle is a farce!

Multiculturalism has been around since the first caveman hit a girl in the head with a club and dragged her back to his clan. Nothing new really.

Look at Germany 50 years ago it was represented by a blond in a dirndl. Totally different today and very mutli-culti like much of Europe.

We have always been a Multicultural society or maybe those of us who belong to that designation just noticed it before the rest.
