Do you believe the GOP should still be paid during the Government Shutdown?

A shutdown would also affect pay for members of the military, said senior government officials familiar with the planning.

I think the Congress has already made arrangements for the pay of the military to continue during this shutdown. So that matter is attended. The bigger question of other effects of shutdown remain and that will have a bearing on the credibility of the American state and its standing in the world polity, not forgetting that many Americans must  manage finances in the absence of monthly paychecks. This is a sad episode and signals the end of a great empire.

No, I do not believe they should be paid. On the other hand, they get paid for doing nothing always.

I agree,  They don't work, why should they get paid?
      They shouldn't

JThompson42, MT was referring to the Republicans alone -- the assumption being that everything is the fault of the GOP, and that the  president and democrats have no shared responsibility in this mess. So I would say, I disagree.

Sorry, thought he mean all politicians.  I don't think Republicans or Democrats should be paid, or the president.  None of them

That is a good idea--if none of them collected a salary it would sure weed out the egos and get someone who is for real and really wants to make a difference!

I think if the Government is going to voluntarily Shut down it would be a good time to go ahead and hold some elections and find people who actually want to work for the people and Replace a Bunch of Incumbants... Starting with the President who is more concerned about supporting terrorists than protecting Americans and our Rights.

I have been thinking about that one for a long time.  Trying to find out if any of them has done anything ( like oh, maybe work) for  the people they are supposed to represent.

I really wonder, when do they actually work?

      Fantastic answer.

Simple; they work when they can put coins in the pockets of their puppeteers. Personally I think they should have to wear the little hats of the organ grinder's monkeys.

Paid? Only if that payment is via being tarred and feathered and hung in the public square so that people can take their turns flogging them.

Well that was the old way to do it.  I wonder what percentages of the American People might actually vote against them next time voting comes around

Well, Michelle, it looks like 'if you break it you own it'. I hold the GOP responsible for this mess and they should not be paid for politically bandstanding and holding the peoples business hostage as a result.

Why do they want to harm the people they are supposed to help.  I just do not understand.  Do they only care about the rich?  Someones's business is life or death in this day and age.

I'm staying out of any debate about which party is right and which is wrong. That said, no elected official in Washington of either party should get paid if they're not working. They work for me or are supposed to and my taxes pay their salary. If they worked for my business and decided to walk out until things got resolved, they'd only get paid if they had vacation days to use. After those are used up, they get NOTHING! And I don't care which side of the aisle they're sitting on.

Once again, I agree with you.  It does not matter is they are a Republican or Democrat.  Right now they are not doing their jobs.  Actually people are getting pissed off.

No! They should not get paid. It is absolutely sickening to hear what the government has done. I think if politicians want to shut the government down then they should shut their paychecks down. The thought that these indecisive politicians made their decision without regard for the lives that would be impacted simply boils my blood. If the government is indeed shut down (and politicians are part of the government), then  these politicians (who, by the way aren't working) should not receive a paycheck. Whatever point they are trying to prove, they need to feel the pain of their decision just like the rest of us.

They should live in our shoes.  Work two jobs, try to pay bills they have trouble paying, I can go on and on but I will stop.  Your comment is very good.

It wouldn't hurt any of these politician if they didn't get paid because most of them are already rich.

I think politician should only be able to serve for a certain amount of time and then out they go so new blood can come in and keep things working.  There are too many old boy clubs.  Politicians shouldn't be able to own stocks in companies while in office, get paid the same amount as the people in the states they represent and have to be allowed to be fired if they don't do their jobs like common working class people who have to float this old boat full of holes and go without themselves.
Sorry just ranting because I am one of those working people that has to go without when the money is gone like on Wednesday and payday isn't till Friday.

    No & yes;
I don't think any member of either party should be paid, nor should they be repaid when they get things straightened out, not that they ever will.
Both parties are equally to blame and both are equally corrupt so neither should be getting something the other isn't.
So no they shouldn't be paid but I don't single out the GOP.
BTW; I'm not a member of either party.

No. Let them know how it feels to not get paid and still have to pay the mortgage and put food on the table. Of course with their gigantic salaries it probably wouldn't effect them as badly.  As a matter of fact, I think the Senate and Congress should have the same healthcare options the people do.
