What were your reactions to Nelson Mendela's death?

Mandela died of a lung infection on 5 December 2013 at his home in Houghton, Johannesburg surrounded by his family. He was 95 years of age. On 6 December President Zuma announced a national mourning period of ten days, with the main event being an official memorial service to be held at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on 10 December 2013. Mandela's body will lie in state from 11 to 13 December at the Union Buildings in Pretoria and a state funeral will be held on 15 December 2013 in Qunu.

I think he was an inspiration. He had a set of beliefs and he lived them despite the cost.  I do think the public grief is over done as he was 95 years old and it was his time.

Unlike many of us, he died a useful man.

I was sad when I heard the news but realised he was very frail and at the end of his life. There could be a vacuum created as a result and the present leadership will have to be very vigilant if stability is to be maintained.
Nelson Mandela don't forget was a terrorist and urged a violent struggle to overcome the apartheid system of government. His greatness on release was to say - don't blame anyone, don't look to the past but look to the future and reconcile yourselves with peace.
This is remarkable. There could easily have been a bloodbath in South Africa if Mandela had not spoken out immediately for peace.
