    Directly, as in: 'I do not wish to discuss that just now.'

      I have a hard time being direct I feel like it would offend.but thank you though.

    I am not necessarily polite about it.  I just say, "I don't want to discuss that topic."  If someone persists, I just walk away.

      I have jumped subjects but I think being direct is better after reading answers it's more polite
