Do you think Italy or Greece will sell an island to Mr. Sawiris for him to donate to the refugees?

Naguib Sawiris is an Egyptian businessman and billionaire who has offered to buy an island for people fleeing to Europe from war-torn countries in the Middle East and Africa. He is quoted as saying "there is no limit" on what he is willing to spend to buy an island from Italy or Greece -- where thousands have been arriving -- to provide the refugees with a new home. I think this is the best hope that these people have of living in peace, even if only temporary. Do you think Italy or Greece will sell?

I suspect Greece or Italy would be happy to LEASE an island of sufficient size for Mr. Sawiris to  equip it to meet the needs of the present refugees and migrants, and UNRA should hop on a plane with Italian and Greek officials ready to make such an offer come to pass.  Otherwise there is a large wilderness area in the State of Maine where our illegals and Europe's asylum seekers and migrants could be settled, documented, and learn to become the productive future citizens every country needs.

I'm curious, do you suppose there are good reasons why all those individuals and families are not anxious to go to Russia?  Putin has a big heart too, doesn't he?

The immigrants from Syria, Africa, etc. are facing more & more blockades, and are unlikely to make it to Russia even if they wanted. So many simply seeking peace, it's understandable why places don't want large #'s of them but they need help.

It is a good idea to keep the refugees in a place where they can wait for immigration's papers, medical exmination and psychological examination including a good nutritional and a good balance meals to find a good place for them to live with other people

I agree, I find it doubtful though that the philanthropic billionaire would be allowed to buy land from Italy or Greece to facilitate this. I truly hope I am very wrong for the sake of those fleeing war.

Mr. Sawiris wants to declare indepence on that island he wishes to buy. I don't think anyone will let him start his own country despite this all situation.
For me it looks Sawiris just seeks for a paradise island where he can be free of taxes and grow his personal business. While having cheap labor from the refugees.

Also, what would be the citizenship of these refugees? what conditions would that island have on a long-term? No laws, no markets, no business, no nothing.

I don't think buying an island and declaring independence is the way to solve the problem. It is just an oppurtinity for Mr. Sawiris to self-promote himself and his business.

He has not said he wants to do these things. If he wanted to be free of taxes & grow his wealth, fine, so long as the refugees are safe & have better opportunities in life. No one else is stepping up & this could be huge a stepping stone

All refugees prefer to inherit a soothing place where they are easily accessible and find adoptable. The distance is a great factor. But they prefer EU than having Africa. This is because of the above reason.
Russia is far from Serya. US is also. However I think refugees should be given shelter proportionally to all the EU countries so that in future they could not dismantle the situation of a particular country. They need the help of the world. Philamthropism has not died.
At the same time I can also say to make a strong counterterrorism by making an alliance among the strongest countries like US,Russia,China etc against terrorists.

You have some good observations. I would like to believe that something good will happen for the refugees seeking peace in a stable and safe place.
