    Consider L Schubert's comment:  Surely such an inspired combination of kitschy Americana and educational purpose deserves a second chance to make it as a new and improved tourist attraction? What do you think of the proposed project?

    Yes! I didn't even know this was a thing. It's sad that it has been forgotten.  I don't think they should renew or fix the busts at all! I think that mother nature has painted her own touch to them and they look great! This could become a new attraction that brings in new jobs and tourism.
