   Why is President Obama interfering with the California Senate election and dividing his own party?
   
   Two Democrats (Kamala Harris and Loretta Sanchez) have been nominated as candidates to replace Barbara Boxer as California's representative in the United States Senate. President Obama has chosen to endorse Kamala Harris and has even gone to the extent of starring in a televised ad on her behalf. Do you think it is okay or even wise for him to do so? Why would he choose to bring division to his own Democratic party? And should a president be allowed to take time away from his regular duties to film ads for other candidates

   That Senate seat is a very important seat.  Loretta Sanchez is perfect as a Congress person because she is very grassroots.  However, when it comes to issues of national importance and foreign affairs, Kamala Harris appears to be much more suited for that type of heavy lifting.  I think CA would be well represented with Loretta Sanchez right where she is and Kamela Harris in the Senate position. (I'm not quite sure if Sanchez had to give up her Congressional seat to run for Senate or not.  However, if we could keep her and have Harris in the Senate, It seems like a perfect fit.  I think President Obama does have the responsibility to do what he can to help put someone in office whom he knows would be best suited to a very powerful position.

      Thank you Billie for your comments. They are well thought out and well-stated. Loretta Sanchez did have to give up her Congressional seat to run. I wonder if the president risks alienating Latino voters by taking a public position in this race.

      I think Sanchez is beloved in the Latino community, but I have faith in the thoughtful mindset of that whole segment of the population. There's a high degree of integrity, I believe, and I think while loyal, the community as a whole is insightful
