Have those who voted for Brexit in the UK been betrayed? By the mooted 50bn divorce settlement
Is there a way forward?
I'm an European, not living or born in the UK. But still the whole Brexit thing matters to all Europeans.
To leave the European Market, cultural institutions, science and education programs, labour rights and financial regulation comes with a cost.
I can not judge if 50bn is to much or to little as you have to know how the 50bn is calculated. Every country that joined the project of the European Union has responsibilities to take. It invests and gets benefits of sharing information, education, economical deals etc. These are obligations, for every country. Every country pays it's share if it wants to participate in a project. Paying the workforce, research, making the project work and maintenance. These can be schools, roads, jobs etc. This has to be paid. It is paid by every member of the European Union. To step away is like breaking a contract. Lots of "projects" are long term and the financial backup is calculated over a longer period. This is the money the UK promised to pay before there was any talk or vote about Brexit.
The 50 bn is not a punishment, it is the sum of money that Britain still has to pay it's employers that work oversee, the roads that are build with money from the EU etc.
So the fact that the UK has to pay something is normal. How much is difficult to say as you have to know the ins and outs of the deal.

Brexit seems to be the UKs answer to the US question: How do we get our mojo back?Donald Trump is our Brexit. A promise to take us back to simpler times, when we could rule our destiny and blah, blah blah. He is currently stumbling around Scotland, congratulating them on voting to take their...

With a huge turnout and in the wake of a controversial killing of a MP the UK people voted to leave the EU. Many cited the control of its' borders as the main reason. A handful of other members are also considering a similar direction. Can the US learn anything from this or are we just terminally...

This is the fourth time I'm asking this. It seems like more are sorry, especially the ones with no job.

Seriously, don't Trump supporters feel a bit betrayed when he trumps himself repeatedly withan even odious statement as time goes by? Yes being non-PC is his thing and everybody is entertained by it but at one point do supporters say, "OK - that was over the line" I do know that when most...

We use the internet for everything. Why not the internet? If we voted by internet, this would almost cancel out need for politicians. With internet voting, the people could vote on the laws. With internet, the country would trly be run by the people.
