May 16  President Trump’s held an immigration roundtable discussion. Participants included cabinet members, California sheriffs, and other officials.  The conversation touched on sanctuary cities, MS-13 gang members, s well as the federal "catch and release" practice on our southern border.  During the meeting, Fresno County Sheriff  Margaret Mims spoke of the increasing problems due to having state laws, that now differs from Federal laws. She complained of being stuck in the middle.

"Mims" made a statement in regards to the difficulty of holding MS 13 gang members due to California's sanctuary views, and state laws. "Thank you. There could be an MS-13 gang member I know about — if they don't reach a certain threshold, I cannot tell ICE about it."

President Trump responded " We have people coming into the country, or trying to come in — and we're stopping a lot of them — but we're taking people out of the country. You wouldn't believe how bad these people are. These aren't people. These are animals. And we're taking them out of the country at a level and at a rate that's never happened before. And because of the weak laws, they come in fast, we get them, we release them, we get them again, we bring them out. It's crazy.
The dumbest laws, as I said before, the dumbest laws on immigration in the world. So we're going to take care of it, Margaret. We'll get it done."

The media took his statement and twisted it out of context.  By evening most News media outlets and their talk jocks ran with the comment.  Many slanting the statement to represent  President Trump calling "immigrants  Animals".  When the panel members on their shows made derogatory comments and further spread President Trump's statement out of context.  The talk Jocks did nothing to correct their off colored comments.

This is inexcusable... Many from the White House press corps were present and were well versed in the context of the Presidents statement.  This kind of fake news slips through the cracks frequently.  It is clearly biased, and dangerous to our society.  In the case of the "animal" statement, many are still of the opinion that President Trump called all immigrants animals...  Context is important when reporting news, and when a statement is purposely twisted out of context this is called propaganda.  The Washington Post has printed  "The 3001 lies of Trump".  many of what the Washington Post has listed as lies are examples of twisting context, as well as statistics.  Time to defend context.   In fact, it's long overdue.

      Hi Sharlee01, great comment.

As a demander, (snicker, I have more than once been accused of raining on someone's parade), of context, I have frequently seen threads change direction - or die, when respect for context is demanded.

I love Youtube, a great place to find the full context of what was said ...  It's a good research tool, especially when it comes to President Trump.

Not only when reporting the news but anytime you’re expressing an opinion or having a discussion. I think everyone knows that the media tends to sensationalize things and looks for “click bait”. I think I’m less impressed by average humans who take things out of context to prove a point - or the ones who readily eat up what a news headline says without checking for validity or context before spreading it.

Aime, thank you for your comment.  I think you summed it up, and you did it by making your point concise without thousands of words.  Well said.

This one incident is so typical of how the media plays almost all that Trump says .  Surprise !  No , I am not and never have been , either with Trump's plain-speak nor with the news media's bull shyte speak .

Thanks for the thread. I saw the news that he used the word 'animals'. I assumed it was something like this, but it's good to know where it came from.

I'm not sure that a great many care.  For far too many people your example of the "animal" comment is a good one, for they search out more reasons to hate Trump, and context or even reality is not  a part of why they read.  A lurid headline, like a supermarket tabloid, will draw readers and they walk away happy that their opinions have been upheld and proven correct if the context, the "whole story" is just ignored for a bit.

Wilderness, I agree. It's obvious that those that are affected by "Trump Derangement syndrome"  (TDS) are very selective about where they get their news, It is also obvious that when they run across information that they do not want to hear or in any respect prove their bias beliefs wrong, they stay clear...  For instance, this very post, do you see any infected with TDS commenting?

You see mistruth are what feed those affected withTDS. The number one symptom of TDS is the ability to regurgitate truth and spit out as lies.

I just hoped to bring to light that sometimes the media twists the truth to meet their personal narratives.  It is just my opinion, but I feel this is one of the problems that is dividing us.
