What is the minimum income needed to live decently in particular regions of the United States?   What is the minimum income needed to live comfortably in particular regions of the United States?  What is considered a decent, livable income for you?  What is considered a comfortable income for you?

Unless you are asking people what they consider to be a comfortable life, you need to define it a little better.

Does "live decently" include eating out at least weekly?  A movie every week?  Going to plays or other entertainment on a monthly basis (or more)?  Does it require 1200 sq ft of living space per person?  An SUV in the driveway as opposed to a 10 year old compact?  Support for a family of 4 or more as opposed to a single person?  Will toys such as RV's, boats or ATV's be required?  Does it mean the latest cell phone, at $1,000 per year plus service, or will a 3 year old phone be used until it dies and then a $200 one be purchased?

How much luxury is required to "live decently"?  Or should you be asking for minimum survival, with another X amount for luxuries?

O-KAY, living decently means living beyond the socioeconomic poverty level & living comfortably means having enough to life beyond the rudimentary level & having monies for culture, travel, health care, savings/investments, & being a couple of paychecks away from homelessness.

In most rural or semi-rural areas I am able to live with only the income of air, food, some form of shelter and water. Here in the city of DC I have lived comfortably on a $945.00 per month retirement check in 2013 that has for this year risen to $1,021.00 per month. With the aid of DCHA, I would be able to save $500 or more a month if I wasn't busy providing aid to people who can't live off such mega income while sharing with them how they can downsize if they are willing to and still be comfortable.
