Minnesota's city council members want to dismantle the police?!?

Look, I don't always agree with the police either, and truth be told, one of the main reasons I voted for Bernie Sanders in 2016 was because I felt at the time he was the only presidential candidate that took police brutality as a serious matter, and I loved his idea of implementing body cameras on all police officers.  Granted, the obvious issues with that is that corrupt police officers could just "fake" a camera malfunction if they wanted to get away with something, and then there's the issue of how would you fund something like that.   But still. if you could solve the funding issue, then I think it would've been a great idea to hold police officers accountable for their actions.

However, it seems the majority of city council members in Minnesota feel that the police is beyond reform, and can't be trusted.  Therefore, most of their members want to abolish the police entirely.  Not just defund them but possibly abolishing it completely, and rebuilding a new system of security for it's city from the ground up.

The Mayor, from my understanding, is opposed to this idea, and does have veto power over anything the city council wants, as the Mayor still sees the police as essential in society, and would rather make drastic reforms to them instead.  However, most of the city council would rather just dismantle the police department entirely with one of the members of the council citing that they feel that they have enough majority of the council members voting for this idea to overpower any alleged veto power the Mayor has over the city council's decisions.

Personally, I think this is a mistake.   As much as some of you don't want to acknowledge this but the fact is that the police are a necessary evil in society.    If you eliminate the police or defund them in any way, then crime is going to go up in that area.  That's just a fact.   You seriously think if the police are dismantled in Minnesota that drug cartels, human traffickers, gang members, mafia members and etc are going to be like, "Oh man the police are gone in this city.  I guess we should stop doing our illegal activities here because it would be un-sportman like to continue on with our illegal activities knowing there's nobody around to stop us.  We may be criminals but we're honest criminals damn it!"    Get fucking real.

If you abolish the police then what's going to happen is that crime will go up.  That's a fact, and it will be proven if this vote to dismantle police in Minnesota passes.

Look, I don't agree with everything the police do either, and like many of you, I too feel that the police officers involved in the murder of George Floyd should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.  However, I don't want the police to be defunded or dismantled because again, we need them.  They're a necessary evil in our society.

Would I be in favor of having our police officers better trained to handle most situations in non violent ways if they can help it?  Absolutely.   Would I be in favor of making the vetting process better so we can have the right people working as police officers instead of the bad ones like the guys who killed George Floyd?  Definitely.

But if you dismantle the police, then chances are it's not going to end well.  And for those of you who try to debate this, my only rebuttal to you will be to quote Luke Skywalker in "Star Wars:  Episode VIII- The Last Jedi" when Luke infamously said, "This won't go the way you think it will."  That's all I'm going to say to you if you're on the side that firmly believes we should abolish the police.

To be truthful. I would like to see Minnesota abolish their police force. It would serve to benefit the rest of the country. This experiment would quickly show how important the police are to America. Can't even imagine the crime, and the screaming liberals in the streets. With no one to blame but themselves. Yeah, I am so ready to sit back and see this happen.

Like the old saying goes.   You never realize how important something is until it's gone.
