"Conservative intellectuals tend to be a dismal sort. By natural disposition we are pessimistic people. We cannot really be blamed for this, when one considers the history of mankind and particularly the sorry history of human governance. From starting unnecessary wars, to enslaving whole peoples, to reducing the masses to poverty through excessive taxation, man, when clothed with the right to rule others, has shown himself to be a tyrant-in-waiting."
I admit it was the Elliot and Tolkien quotes that really drew my agreement, but what the hey . . .
In the face of our national acceptance of CHAZ/CHOP, and our step-by-step acquiescence to the demonization of the law enforcement agencies that make our society livable, it was a refreshing bit of confirmation bias to read this essay.
It's a short read:
"A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends, and break all bonds of fellowship; but it is not this day! An hour of woe, and shattered shields, when the Age of Men comes crashing down; but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!”"
Stand, Men of the West!
GA
GA, tyranny can arise in any form of government. It depends on how people view it.
GA, Good read.

There are many of us conservatives out here that although disappointed in how the Governor of Washington State and Mayor of Seattle are handling CHOP we do recognize it a 6 block radius in a city that is very well-known a liberal city. That is pretty much also well-known for being tolerant of the homeless, and those that fall through the cracks of society. Not sure as you state that the nation accepts CHOP, perhaps tolerates is a better word. Take into consideration the city of Seattle, and the very liberal people that live there. These citizens of CHOP certainly have not gained national acceptance, only tolerance, appeasement. So perhaps one need not be pessimistic in regards to CHOP or how in the end it will be handled. It just hopefully disappear or run out of toilet paper, and return to what it was a few city blokes where homeless roam the streets.
In regards to acquiescence to demonizing law enforcement, I choose to believe this is a minority of citizens.
The country is well divided, but in my view, I have never witnessed Conservatives so displeased with the state of the country. We may have been pessimists by nature in days gone by ---

Jeff Sessions DOJ’s new civil asset forfeiture policy is a gigantic step backwards on property rights. The original definition of terrorism is government by intimidation. A government that uses terror to control it's populace is terrorism. Civil forfeiture laws present law enforcement with...

As for Trump’s suggestions regarding gun control. So, conservatives, whose side is he on here? Is he really suggesting that law enforcement preemptively strip just anybody of weapons before a crime is committed? That is most disturbing. https://www.yahoo.com/news/president-tr …...

Did you know that in Arizona law enforcement agencies use a system called civil asset forfeiture to take and keep peoples' homes, businesses, cash, cars and other property on the mere suspicion it is involved with criminal activity? This is true even if the owner is never convicted — or even...

Well, this has gone largely unreported. The 2014 shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., has spawned a violent domestic threat from “black identity extremists” who have stepped up attacks on police.“It is very likely that BIEs’ perceptions of unjust treatment of African-Americans and the...
