IP addresses in comments. (?)

    I haven't posted in a while.  I was contacted by a detective who saw a comment left on one of my articles.  I just spoke to him on the phone and he is legit.  The anonymous commenter gave information on a cold case of a missing girl.  I sent the information to the proper authorities . 

    I know we used to be able to find the IP address of the commenters but that is no longer an option.  If it could help the case, perhaps there is another way to determine where the comment originated.
    Anyone know?  This detective is dedicated to solving this case.
