To my friends on the Progressive Democratic Left: Now is not the time.

While I support the objectives of the programs associated with the 3.5 trillion proposal, I cannot justify sacrificing what is a great start over having all that we want. Progressives want to tie the far more contentious 3.5 trillion dollar proposal to  the approval of the 1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that has just got through the Senate mindfield, that is not advisable.

Biden has a narrow window of opportunity to hit the ball out of the park this year to retard the re infestation of Congress by Republicans next year. This is a golden opportunity to get some progress for a change, let's not blow it and end of with nothing because we wanted it all. I tell my Progressive friends to  get behind the President recognizing what has been accomplished is not bad for " a senile old fool". Nancy Pelosi needs to stand down and listen to the moderates 'this time'.

This quote expresses my sentiments pretty well....

"With the livelihoods of hardworking American families at stake, we simply can't afford months of unnecessary delays and risk squandering this one-in-a-century, bipartisan infrastructure package," said the letter, signed by enough Democrats to prevent the budget resolution from passing the narrowly divided House.

"It's time to get shovels in the ground and people to work," they wrote.

    Your thoughts.....

I would like to hear more of yours. From the title, you think another time would be better.

Will your friends on the Democratic Left still be your friends, if they insist?

They are very interested in infrastructure projects, after all..

Conservatives are also pretty interested in infrastructure projects as well.

Better to have occasional spars with friends and allies than to try to  parler with those for which only an adversarial relationship is possible.

Where were the remaining 30 or so GOP votes on the legislation?

The idea should not be shelved, a better time may be if we can get a larger majority of Democrats in the Senate.
