The Comey-Clinton Document Standard and Trump
When Hillary kept classified information on her private email server, Justice and the FBI let her off.

"When Jim Comey held his July 2016 press briefing on Hillary Clinton’s emails, his conclusion was this: “Although there is evidence of potential violations of the statutes regarding the handling of classified information, our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case.”

In other words, Mrs. Clinton could have been indicted but wasn’t. That ended the Clinton email saga as a legal matter—with a lecture but without a prosecution. As we wrote at the time, this was an outrageous usurpation by the FBI director, whose role was to investigate and turn the evidence over to a U.S. Attorney or the Attorney General to decide on the prosecution." This thread is not meant to compare one case against the other. The facts are pretty clear to the clear-minded.

My question -   Where are we as a Nation, as a society headed with this sort of biased standards?

      For you consideration Sharlee:

Of the tens of thousands of Hillary Clinton's emails  investigators reviewed, 113 contained classified information, and three of those had classification markers. James Comey said in 2016 that she should have known that some of the 113 were classified, but others she might have understandably missed. In a sign of the uncertainty around classification, in 2018, a Justice Department report found that the classification markings were not clear.

The FBI issued its findings in July 2016. Broadly, it said classified information had been improperly transmitted, but carelessness, not an intent to skirt the law, was the cause.

So, key differences between Hillary Clinton and Mr Trump's situation?

“Trump took properly marked hard copy classified documents from the White House, shipped them to Florida, and stored them in an unsecured location at his residence,”

The presence of classified information in Clinton’s emails was less obvious.

“The e-mails were never marked as classified because these were communications from unclassified government accounts,”

In three instances, email chains included information with classification markers. It was never clear that Clinton was aware of the presence of that marked information, or if the classification marking was clear.

Marked information is not to be confused with emails containing unmarked information that could be deemed classified. That is a looser definition, and one that can be applied retroactively. Thomas Blanton, director of the National Security Archive at George Washington University, said in one case, an email in one chain forwarded a front-page New York Times story about a drone strike. Under its rules, the CIA called that classified, Blanton said.

When classified information was clearly involved, Blanton said Clinton’s “briefings were on a different system, a classified Blackberry that was managed by State Department IT people.”

Documents at Mar-a-Lago were clearly marked as classified.

Overall, the FBI said it was reasonably confident that there was no intentional misconduct on Hillary Clinton's part.

We will have to await the outcome in terms of Mr Trump.
I personally do not believe he's receiving any different treatment, he only wants people to believe that. Painting himself as a persecuted murder he's always been part of his persona.

You don't yet understand my point --- Simply this kind of trial by media is unfair, unconstitutional, and downright not acceptable.

We are seeing leak after leak from the DOJ. Conveniently, and clearly meant to paint a one-sided picture.

We have been through one after another investigation that involves Trump. I feel this needs to stop. If he has broken a law, the DOJ needs to indite him for that crime. You don't accuse or insinuate crimes and then search for a crime.

I don't intend to converse about this investigation unless we see an indictment. I feel I don't want to be part of the crowd on this one. U think I will sit above the fray. Just feel pretty stupid going back and forth without an actual reason to do so. There have been no charges, at this point, it's clear to me the DOJ is leaking, building a media case, and spreading an ugly form of bias.

As I have said over, and over, we just don't have both sides, and no inditement.

Just better to say we need to agree to disagree due to opposing
mindsets. I have no stomach for throwing stones without all the facts. If Trump is indicted, I will jump back in. We will then be hearing both sides, and be a very interesting case to discuss.

There is also one major difference.

Donald Trump was president and had the authority to declassify documents.

Hillary Clinton did never had such authority.

There is absolutely no evidence thus far than any of the documents were declassified. Others would have been in that loop.

        - just taking them home declassified them. That's what the was told.
They were records acquired during his administration, like a journal.
        - would YOU want to leave your diary there and allow it to become public?

"just taking them home declassified them. That's what the was told."

That's not how it works and if he believed that's how it works then ignorance is really not an excuse. This was a man who was never suited for the job.  It seems that he repeatedly showed, that even at the most basic levels, he didn't understand how government worked.

I think you're right again.  Although he understood much better than any liberal in the country what our country needs and what it's real problems are (It's not guys barred from girls bathrooms), he did not understand how our government works.

If you can call it "works" while violent crime rises, while an army invades our country from the south, while rioting goes unchecked and unaddressed, anyway.

It baffles me how some just don't even note that these horrendous problems exist due to this administration. It would be unkind of me to suggest my thoughts on how some became so vulnerable, and find it easy to turn away from the truth.
