Are voters happy with America’s global standing? Poll shows near-record disapproval by the Miami Herald published by Yahoo News (Mar 11, 2024)

"The majority of Americans, 65%, are dissatisfied with the country’s global standing, according to a new Gallup poll, which comes as the U.S. remains embroiled in wars in Ukraine and Israel.

Meanwhile, just 33% of Americans are satisfied with the country’s standing in the world, marking the lowest such rating in seven years, according to the poll released on March 11.

The poll, which sampled 1,016 adults from Feb. 1 -20, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points."

Take a peek at the Gallup Poll graphic. It shows from 2000 to 2024. The high was approximately 2002 around 70% dropping to 33% for 2024.

Most know history much better than I. So, I ask what happen in those 24 years? How did the ship go off course? Why?

The Gallup poll reveals a stark dissatisfaction among the majority of Americans with the country's global standing.  With 65% expressing dissatisfaction and only 33% indicating satisfaction, the findings reflect the lowest approval rating in many years. This sentiment could be due to the US being amidst ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Israel.  Throughout a couple of decades, the nation witnessed a range of significant geopolitical events, economic fluctuations, and shifts in domestic and foreign policy priorities. Factors such as the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, prolonged military engagements in the Middle East, economic recessions, political polarization, and shifts in global power dynamics, not to mention we had a disrupter ( DJT)  that came along with an agenda of putting America first, due to his thoughts that it was time to concentrate on America's problems, likely all of the above have a big influence on public perception of America's global role.

Additionally, debates over foreign intervention, trade agreements, and diplomatic strategies may have shaped citizens' views on the country's standing in the world.

In my perspective, the decrease in satisfaction emphasizes the necessity for a thorough evaluation and potential adjustment of America's approach to global affairs to address the worries and aspirations of its citizens.

I believe the forthcoming election will serve as a significant indicator of Americans' sentiments concerning the nation's global standing and their concerns regarding it. In my view, I feel many at this point are more worried about America than our global standing.  Our country is divided, seems we may have enough on our plate for a bit.
