Can US President Barack Obama lead America away from fossil fuel dependency? German commentators don't think so. Some say he is in danger of turning into an idealistic, one-term president like Jimmy Carter.
US President Barack Obama's address from the Oval Office on Tuesday was supposed to be a moment of leadership during the worst environmental disaster in American history. But critics from across the political spectrum wondered afterwards whether he'd shown leadership at all. The geyser of oil in the Gulf of Mexico seems, technologically, to lie beyond anything either BP or the US government was prepared for, and Obama failed to mention any specific new ideas.
"The tragedy unfolding on our coast is the most painful and powerful reminder yet that the time to embrace a clean-energy future is now," he declared, without offering policy details. Of course, it wasn't a policy speech. But the fact that Obama failed to outline a clear path toward this clean-energy future seems to have disappointed a lot of people. "He didn't boldly push an agenda," said Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican senator from South Carolina, to Politico, the Washington-based news website. "I think a lot of people took that to mean lukewarm support for anything big."

The FACT is the United States Military is the World's Number One oil consumer. But the BLAME gets placed on the people.
Obama will use the Gulf Spill to try and futher his Cap and Tax agenda which he personally stands to profit from.
Cap and Tax will do nothing more than force companies to purchase "Tickets to Pollute". They will still pollute because the demand for energy is so high. This fraudulent Scheme will set up yet another Government Agency. It will require a Brokerage/Carbon Exchange. The people setting up that exchange... Obama and Friends, Al Gore, etc. will be come extremely wealthy as they will get their cut of every Carbon Credit that goes across the exchange.
So it's a big win for these Con Men as they create a new worthless exchange based on buying and selling nothing. The costs of the exchange will be passed along directly to the consumer.
And C02 will be the ploy used. No addressing any real pollution... always referred to as "Other Greenhouse Gasses".
As you dig into the Bills proposed you'll find all kind of CONTROL tactics... forced entry into homes, fines for non compliant appliances, etc. Last summers bill actually gave the Federal Government the right to enter your private residence whenever they want, conduct an inspection of your appliances (And you pay for the inspection), then fine you daily for every violation until it's in compliance.
Do you have the money to replace your A/C unit, your Furnace?
These "sneaky backdoor" provisions are buried deep within these bills... and intrude on your Personal Liberty, Freedom, and Rights at unprecedented levels. This is not an attack on manufacturers... they will just pass on the costs... this is an attack on the average citizen.
Obama is a very very dangerous man.
His latest Unemployment Bill which he is once again actively bashing the Republicans for fighting includes another $50 Billion in unrelated "stimulous". When will it stop? When are people going to realize Obama is a self-obsessed POS that only cares about his own wealth and is destroying the countries economic future?
Well said and sadly so true, MikeNV.
People keep asking, "How are they getting away with this?!?!"
The Obama presidency does strike me as uncanny. The nation is outraged, and the nation is vocal in our outrage. Obama hears us, he whines and snarls about us.
But on he goes.
He keeps on like this and he'll end up an even worse president than carter.
