Could be a number of reasons. As you have set this under the category of "conspiracy theories", I can only guess like you. wink

There have been numerous posts on other sites, asking the same question- had never heard of the website until the tragedy in Japan. Apparently, people have been monitoring it until early this am, when it went down and no one can figure out why...Thought maybe someone on Hubpages could give me an answer...

I got on to a cached page and found this:

Back up now - sorry.  A message for visitors to the Radiation Network.  Click here.

However the "Click here" goes to page fail too.

Sounds like they may be doing housework.

      Thanks-
Have just been a panic attack the last couple of days, sorry- live in Ca near San Onofre- was never too frightened of earthquakes since we have them all the time, but this has affected us all, I think...at least me...

"It's a grass roots network of people monitoring radiation levels across the USA." If USA only - would not see a connection to the current situation in Japan.

"They have Japanese map too." Possible take down then, or maybe servers couldn't handle the traffic. Hear iodine pills are selling like wildfire worldwide.

Heard the same, but that they only prevent radiation from affecting the thyroid-do not protect other organs from exposure or cancer risk...

They and related products are also dangerous for people with any number of preexisting medical conditions.
