Screw you, the Constitution!!
It's a symptom of a lack of courage. The reps and senators know that the only responsible thing to do it so repeal the Bush era tax cuts while at the same time cutting spending. But nobody is willing to take the realistic (but certainly unpopular) stand, so everyone wants to let the other guy take the responsibility/blame. The problem with that is that it also gives the other guy the power.
What's funny is they keep calling it a, "Tea Party" Deal, and it isn't.
