    Hi,
This is Avni Kapadia and I am from India. I read your question and thought of helping you with a few suggestions.
Since you havnt mentioned the dimensions of your mirror and the wall you want to put it up on, I assume that the mirror fits ur wall in the center, leaving approximately 450mm on either sides.
In a scenario like this, I would suggest that you frame the mirror such that the frame acts as the feature and you can put it up in the center of the wall, which you may paint in probably a deep chrome or a burnt sienna or even a metallic copper would look interesting.
Another option is that you can again place the mirror in the center and get trendy glass cabinets made for the space on either sides of the mirror. These cabinets can act as storage for your crockery.
And lastly, if you are okay with getting your mirror cut into parts and placing them in a random order on the wall so as to highlight the wall as a whole, making it a feature in itself, that would also add to the aesthetics of the room.
Hope the above suggestions help you.
If you have any furthur queries, do get back to me. It would be nice to hear from you.
    Regards,
    Avni Kapadia.

You could get some etching solution and using stencils carefully etch a design around the edge of the mirror. The design would be uniquely your and a talking point in your dining room.  Another option would be to make a collage around the edge of the mirror in a theme fitting your dining room, perhaps using sand and shells for a beach theme or dried or silk flowers. You can also glue glass mosiac tiles around the edges to create a stylish and original piece.

The best way to do that is to believe your own instinct. Seriously, the art of home and interior decor is following your very own instincts in collaboration with good aesthetic sense. If you mirror is a big floor mounted mirror, the you can actually place it near to the exit/ entry door. That way any one will be able to fix them selves up when coming in and going out. I really don't suggest wall hanging mirror to be a part of anyone's dining room. You can easily replace that with a picture or wall accent. Here is my blog i.e http://www.blog.decor-collection.com. Here you will find some good usage and good tips on using mirrors

Mirrors work really well when they are placed adjacent to a window. This way they pick up the light from the window and bounce it to another wall.

If your mirror is a nice design, and makes a nice statement on it's own, you may not need to decorate around it. Just be sure that the image it reflects is what you want to see. For instance, many people make the mistake of placing a mirror over the fireplace where it reflects a picture of the ceiling fan.

Hang a something that you love across from it, and you will be able to see it reflected from other angles.

If you feel that you do need to decorate around it, you could frame it nicely on either side with mirrored candle sconces.

First of all you have purchase the new decorative mirrors for your dining room. They will be easily available from the decorative arts gallery in the UK.

My suggestion is to write down on the corners of the mirror some good thoughts or favourite quotes that inspire you. Why not memorable dates? Decorate them with nice stickers or If you are able to draw go ahead. smile
