The Love Story of Samantha & Travis

It’s not every day that you come across the one you that is right for you. But, that wasn’t the case for Sam and Travis who fell in love long before they even knew it. Now, after adding a gorgeous baby girl to their family they hope to achieve a wedding of their dreams. I was fortunate enough to catch Sam for an interview and indulge in their real life love story. In today’s world it is refreshing to know that true love still exists.

Can I call you Sam or do you prefer Samantha?

Sam is just fine! Just don't confuse me for a boy

Tell me a little bit about yourself.

I'm a stay at home mom, who hopes to give my daughter the best future I could give her. I’m newly engaged, living in east grand forks, MN! I come from a big crazy family, who supports me with everything that I do, you can't ask for something better than that! My fiancé and I have been together for 3 years, and we just had a baby girl in October! Our world revolves around her and she was the perfect addition to our new family! When you become a mom, everything changes, but, for the better. Every day is something different, but it's all for your baby. I live and breathe for her, instead of living and breathing for myself! It's a crazy whirl of emotions when their first born. I didn't sleep for two weeks because I was so obsessed with staring at her! Haha

Congratulations on the engagement and the new addition to the family! Who is the lucky fellow?

Thank you! His name is Travis, he's from a small town in southwest MN. We were best friends before we started dating, and I think that's why we're so strong today. He's a manager of a sales company. He is good at talking people into things, like asking me to marry him. (Jk!) He's such a great father and a hard worker. He's the one who asked me to stay home with our daughter instead of working. I couldn't ask for anyone who knows me better and cares about me the way he does. He gives the world to Aria and I. He's perfect!

He sounds like an amazing husband. You mention that you were friends before which makes me wonder how did you two meet? Had he saved you from a burning building or was it something a little less chivalrous?

No, unfortunately. We met through a friend. Haha, it is a pretty boring story. I wouldn’t let him get past the friend zone for about 3-4 months, but he kept wanting more and would never give up! He finally used his manipulative sales techniques to finally win me over.

It's funny that you mention that, I was going to ask what every guy wanted to know; How did he manage to get past that friend zone? He must be quite the sales man indeed. That's a story on its own! At what point had you considered Travis being the one?

I started thinking about my future and knew that Travis was going to be transferred to a new store for his job, and it had me thinking that I didn't want to lose my best friend. I knew deep down I had feelings for him but I was always afraid to show them knowing that he would have to move away someday. A few months went by and he got the call to be transferred. I always thought we had to do a long distance relationship until he asked me to move with him. I took a leap of faith and we moved to Brainerd, MN together. Little did I know that living with someone makes the feelings stronger and I looked forward to him coming home every day and that's when I realized I didn't want to spend my life without him and he was the one for me.

It sounds as if you made a good choice by taking that leap. Would you say that was the most exciting moment in your relationship to date or do you have something else in mind?

No, I'd have I say the most exciting moment would for sure be when we had our beautiful baby girl in October last year. I don't remember much because I was so drained from 11 hours of labor, but I do remember falling in love with Travis all over again. Seeing how emotional and excited he was to finally meet our daughter just made my heart melt.

So when he finally asked the question how did it happen? Had you known it was coming or did you both talk about it before hand?

Of course we talked about marriage, but, I never knew when he'd pop the question. He had faked a proposal to me 3 times to be funny before he finally did it; I didn't find it very funny. Haha so when he finally popped the question for real I thought it was a joke! He took me back to the house where we first met at which was 3 hours away from where we are living now. As I was putting my daughter in her car seat I picked up his coat which was laying in the car seat on top of the ring. I threw both the coat and the ring to the side of the car seat not knowing that there was anything under there. As I was saying good bye to one of our friends he threw the ring back into the car seat and when I opened the door I saw the ring and was shocked. I started thinking it was another cruel joke of his until I turned around and saw him on one knee. I don't remember what was said by me because I was in such shock, but all I remember saying was “oh my god” and my hands were shaking like crazy!

I can hear the wedding bells now; what kind of a wedding are you looking to have?

Well, as you know, kids are expensive! And we had been hoping to buy a house in the near future. I've always dreamed of having a huge wedding for the simple fact of having a big family. But, let's be honest, a wedding like that is at least $25,000 or more these days. So what we can afford is only a small wedding with family and a few friends. Every girl dreams about her big day, but it only becomes a reality if you can afford one!

I had noticed you have a video entered in to win a free wedding of up to $40,000 at Pine Peaks Retreat and Event Center. I must say I enjoyed the video, my daughter even told me "1 more time daddy" so I imagine she enjoyed it too.

If you win what can we expect your dream wedding to be like?

Oh that's so cute!! My nephew and niece did the same thing! I imagine my wedding as an elegant but somewhat country wedding! My fiancé is a farm boy, so I wanted to a country feel but still have a city feel to it, since I'm from a suburb outside of the twin cities!

What do you have in mind for your honeymoon?

We've always wanted to go to Costa Rica, or Tahiti! Somewhere exotic and WARM since we're from Minnesota! 10 years from now, I hope to have 3 more kids, if Travis lets me (he only wants 2, but says we can make a deal and settle for 3) and I hope to be a stay at home mom, but still working from home! I would love to make an online children's accessory site, since I am obsessed with all of the cute bows I put on my daughter. I also hope to be married!! Really, all I care about is that I have a happy family, and a healthy one. There's not much more I truly care about than that!

Your voice sweeps my breath and captures my soul,

Like a picture filled with memories of the past.

I make you laugh just so I can watch a smile,

The night stars couldn’t even shine that bright.

This allows us to see that dreams do come true, so make sure to dream big. I’d like to thank Sam and Travis for telling us their story and truly hope they receive their hearts desire.
