When having a child would you choose to get genetic testing done?

One of the main optional tests offered is an amniocentesis (a surgical procedure for obtaining a sample of amniotic fluid from the amniotic sac in the uterus of a pregnant woman by inserting a hollow needle through the abdominal wall, used in diagnosing certain genetic defects or possible obstetric complications).  This test can also increase the chance of miscarriage.

We opted out for all five of our children because we wouldn't abort a baby even if one had a "defect".  Also, I know more women whose amnio results were wrong than right (when diagnosing a potential defect) -- and they went through tremendous, needless agony and anxiety.  My husband and I discussed our options and felt for my health and the baby's health, we were better just to take care of ourselves and opt out of the test.  BTW -- all of our children have been born perfectly healthy and strong.
