    I definitely agree with old empresario- being gay is a genetic condition, so technically the number of gay people hasn't increased, but the number of openly gay people has. Finally we are starting to realize how old fashioned homophobia is, so a lot of gays are feeling more comfortable to come out.

    I wouldn't say the population is "rising" -- just that it is more accepted by the world at large today, so they're not hiding themselves away anymore

    Your question reads as having a double meaning, but I will pass that by. Approximately one in ten people in the world are outside of the majority of strictly heterosexual population. It's been that way forever, and will likely be so forever. Human sexuality is a very wide spectrum.
