Have you ever been to a themed wedding reception?
My wife and I have been invited to a wedding at which the reception has a Casino theme. Although we've heard about themed weddings this is the first we will have attended. We are wondering if a themed reception is a good idea or just a gimmick.
Yes, I have attended a few themed weddings. I know that a color theme, even an inspired decor is very helpful in wedding planning. However, any theme chosen should be reflective of the story of a couple, not something completely arbitrary, (like fairy tales) unless indeed you met each other performing "snow white" in summer theater. One of the most successful "themes" used at a wedding I attended last year was the love of the bride and groom for distance cycling. Many of the printed items incorporated pix of the couple on their bIkes and the happy couple entered the venue on a bicycle built for two. The gobo on the dance floor was the picture of the two biking, and instead of favors at the wedding, the couple gave a donation to the charity that they usually ride for every summer. This theme was something important to the story of the couple and fit them well.

What are some wedding reception alternatives to the typical dance party?I'm planning my wedding (next summer) and would like some ideas for the reception. It will be a midmorning wedding with a lunch reception, so the typical drunken dance party doesn't really seem appropriate. Plus, my fiance and...
