   DIY INVITATIONS
   I recently got married and I did all the invitations myself! All I did was pick a photo that I liked that I could write text over. I personally chose Heart Reef which is in the Whitsundays, Queensland, Australia. My husband and I met in the Whitsundays, so this image was quite fitting. The image was also a very easy image to work with as there was plenty of 'blue' which was the water, to write text in so you could easily see the writing.
   
   I placed the image (photo) in a word document and then placed a text box where I wanted the text, wrote my text, and then from my very own colour printer printed the invitations on 4 x 6 (standard photo size) Kodak photo paper. **just make sure if you do this you need to ensure that the word doc is sized correctly file, print, properties, page setup. Otherwise you will find that it won't quite print write. It can be fiddly at first but once you've set it up you're all good to go.
   
   I purchased some magnetic strips and cut them in small squares to stick on the back of the photos, so when people received them they could put them on their fridge.
   
   I have also seen similar DIY invitations where people have put tracing paper over the image and written the text on the tracing paper, punctured a whole through the tracing paper and photo and tied it together with some nice ribbon, or a stationary heart shaped clip. This also looks really nice.
   
   I wanted to have nice wedding invitations but my reasoning behind wanting to do them myself was this was not an area that I had prioritized to spend money. The quality of food and wine was more important to me.
   
   From what people tell me I probably saved $500+ dollars by doing it myself.
   
   WHAT TO INCLUDE ON THE INVITAIONS
   We wrote:
   Dear Friend (insert friends name), Because your love and friendship has helped us become who we are, we joyfully invite you to share in our celebration. Join, (insert names of bride and groom and date, time, venue and venue address) Also provide details on how you would like the guests to RSVP and a RSVP due date.
   
   One thing we did forget to mention was what the dress code was -and we had lots of calls / emails regarding this so worth putting that in to. I also recommend putting in the invitation whether or not it is a cocktail function or a formal sit down meal.
   
   We actually stipulated
   4.00pm Wedding Ceremony on the Beach
   6.30pm to Midnight Pre Dinner Drinks & Canapes Followed by a Three Course Dinner
   
   I've been caught out before going to a wedding thinking you're going to get a meal, when in fact it's just finger food - so always good to let your guest know.
   
   Then all you need is a reply (or RSVP) card if you're planning to do that, most people email these days. Plus you need to mention what you would like your guests to do with regards to gifts. <no self-promotion>
