    Valentine's, what's that!?

Well, jokes aside, I guess it's the day for couples to flirt totally while I thank the special people in my life (my parents, friends, etc.) for their care.

When we were still dating, Valentines' Day was a big deal for my wife and I. We'd make a night of it - dinner, movie, flowers, etc.
Now that we've been married for 18 years, it's pretty much just another day. A year or two ago we totally forgot that it even was Valentines Day till our kids came home from school with handmade cards for us. Haha

It varies from year to year as to what we do.
However the days of us going over the top are fairly long gone. Home ownership and other responsibilities change priorities.
I view Valentine's Day in the same sense as Mother's Day and Father's Day in that it's a day set aside for those who may not normally take the time during the course of the year to show their appreciation to their loved one.
My guess is if it weren't for Valentine's Day some people would never give each other a romantic card/token gift.
Having a "Hallmark day" designated to honor them guarantees it happens usually at least once a year. None of these holidays should make someone feel pressured. They should be a fun celebration if one wants to participate.
For most people in long-term relationships or marriages Valentine's Day doesn't have to be something grand. A quiet dinner at home in front to the fireplace, exchanging cards, followed by a night of passion or sleep is just fine.
Some make it one of their "Date nights" to break the routine.
The biggest issue among couples is when a person places more emotional investment into the holiday than their mate does. Failure to meet {their expectations} might lead to resentment.
It's great for couples to be on the "same page"!

You have a deeper view on what Valentines day is all about.I agree with you when you say "Valentine's Day doesn't have to be something grand". It should be celebrated in simple way yet memorable one.Thank you for this thought:)Good day
