How many commandments did Jesus Christ give during His ministry?
Did you know that Jesus Christ gave commeandments during His ministry. One of them is found in John 13:34 (NKJV) which states; 34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another as I have loved you, that you also love one another" What another commandments did He give during His ministry?
I think the one you mentioned is the only real one He gave. However, His parables and stories about Him in the New Testament are worth studying.
Lolita Monroe- You are correct, His parables are worth studying. Most are related to the "Likeness" of the Kingdom, not sure if they are directly connected to commandments.but thereis a parable relating to loving our neighbor, which is a commandment.
These come to mind Matthew 5:43-45, Matthew 7:12, Matthew 22:36-40, Matthew 19:19
But what really comes to mind is the Centurion who came to Jesus and explained how he commanded troops and said a command and it was done. So I look at this concept with that perspective. The only real commandment of Jesus was as you say.
But then again Jesus gave us that commandment and then gave examples, stories and instructions on how to carry it out, so maybe you could call those secondary commandments.
Eric- I believe you are correct. There could be veven more if we look at how often He said; "Commanded you" or Commanded. As a King, Jesus could give commands which are commandments depending what He is commanding. Thanks for your answer.
This was so interesting of a question I looked around a bit and read a whole bunch of red letter text. Really cool. If you go all encompassing I think we are looking at over 1,000. And then just think of all those that he commanded by action.
Eric. Thank you. I didn't realize the number was that high. I guess I should not be surprises. Thanks
Please let me bow to you instead as you asked the question which taught me much and enriches my understanding. That is a gift you have given freely and I thank you.
Kingdom
Jesus said that there were only really two commandments.
1. Love the LORD your God with all of your Heart, Soul, Mind and strength.
2. Love your neighor as you love yourself.
Maybe what you say about 'primary and secondary' commandments (below) fit with this but the reality is if we're doing these two then all the rest flow out from them!
According to John 13:34 Jesus Christ clearly gave a new commandment . He even states IT as a NEW COMMANDMENT. Why is that difficult to understand.

Why is it that Jesus mentioned only 6 of the 10 Commandments of the OT within the four Gospels? If you study the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, you will realize that Jesus never mentions all 10 commandments during His ministry. Why? If the 10 Commandment apply to us today...
