   How do we know right from wrong?
   
   Proverbs 16:25
   "There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death."  Does this way change based on changing times?

   Heb 13:8-9
   8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. 9 Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.
   
   The church system of "men" change their beliefs to fit their corrupt plans with the desires of "their" people.   Those following them in building their kingdoms of men.
   But those following the Christ and building HIS KINGDOM, do not change from scripture truths.

      yes I agree but if you do not believe in testing all spirits and just accept what some man wants to feed you rather than checking scripture with the aid of the Holy Spirit this is what you get.

   Basically, you are right until proven that you are wrong. Someone is always going to differ with your idea of what is right. Proverbs are not persuasive, as Machiavelli and Shakespeare have more knowledge of what is in the mind of man.

      I think that is in the wheelhouse of both Shakespeare, and Machiavelli, and I forgot about Edgar Allan Poe. Although, I probably don't know your reference here. Who is right in that situation?

      I'm sorry Brad.  My intent was for a moral discussion of right and wrong and wanted a Christian perspective.  Perhaps I should have placed a qualifier assuming only people with morals would answer.

   There are two possible answers.
   1. Right and wrong are defined by religion, rules outlined from God. Within the rules, right, outside the rules, wrong.
   2. Right and wrong are based on how you feel, the most powerful person having the ability to over-rule others. Then you get Nietzsche's view of uber-men having their own morality, and everyone else's morality is inferior and irrelevant. And it is rule of the strong or privileged over everyone else.

   Man likes to contemplate matters of the Spirit and come up with conclusions. Real Right and Wrong are metaphysical. They are totally not bureaucratic in religious or institutional analysis. Taking a life is wrong in the thought process. Fine. Taking a life for good reason is values and morality based. Try as I might I cannot find a translation that actually changes "Thou shall not kill" into thou shall not murder.
   Right and wrong are left to our human condition.
   Most of us give it a shot to do right. That is clear by our normally harmonious condition with exceptions.
   Others just wake up in the morning and set out to pass judgment on others and act accordingly. And maybe they are right part of the time. My wife loves it when I act right --- and I have no idea what that means half the time.
