Do you believe in an eternal hell? If you do, do you think the "torment" is physical, or mental?
Do you believe in a hell? If so, do you believe that it lasts forever, or will everyone get out of it eventually? Is the suffering in hell physical or mental/spiritual? Or do we just die and rot... no afterlife at all? Or are we reincarnated?
I believe it is both physical and mental.
It is an eternal dying experience, which means perpectual rotting and dying.
No one ever actually gets out.
I read it from spiritlessons.com
See the near-death, or out of body experiences many people had and what they saw in Hell.
I am not sure if I believe in Hell exactly, but I do believe our spirits move on to another place. I do not believe we are reincarnated. Once we are done with this earth, we have other places to go if we are worthy or more lessons to learn if we are not.
If there is a Hell, I believe the suffering would be spiritual rather than mental or physical, but I have a hard time describing what I mean. It would be like being consumed by guilt and having no way to make up for what you have done and no escape from the remorse you feel. But I do believe if you truly repented your time in Hell would be limited before you could move on. I just cannot believe in a God that would torment anyone forever.
Yes, I believe in eternal hell.
The torment is both physical and mental as physically you will be suffering endlessly and mentally, knowing that you have no idea when such torture would end,if ever it would.
My perspective would be people will encounter a real hell. I believe the torment in hell is physical and psychological, I say this because a while back I read an article which talked about the conditions in hell-honestly I can't remember if that was a religious journal or not however it stated that those sent to hell where the flame is never quenched will be given flesh over their bones and they will experience the pain of burning alive only to have to undergo this cycle for what we know as forever. Personally, that which we call eternity will I believe at some point cease for these people and then they will no longer exist.
No specific location underground called "hell," that people will "go to." We go through spiritual, mental and physical "testing" and "tribulation" periods in this realm to determine if we move forward into our reward for bringing glory to the Almighty.
Overcoming the evil spirit within each of us with the God-filled spirit provided to us with love, forgiveness and obedience will determine if we move forward to a heavenly-like bliss or, after judgment, simply cease to exist.
My daughter made a comment about hell the other day that made a lot of sense. (kids are good about that)
She said, "If you burn forever, eventually, you'd just get used to it."
It added one more reason to my list of "why I don't believe in an everlasting torment called hell".
Also...I cannot imagine a creator that would be OK with torturing people (mentally and/or physically) forever. That would just be cruel. If that's "God".. no thank you.
Yes I believe there is hell. But on the flip side therefore I must and do believe there is a Heaven. I also believe we are spiritual beings having an earthly experience and our spirit is eternal. So therefore i also believe that our actions on earth do reflect our destination for eternity.
As far as physical/mental suffering, i believe it is mental. There has been to many cases to date showing people who have used positive thinking, meditation and auto suggestive processes to cure illness etc. This to me says that it will be mental suffering because physical pain can be overcome by the mind...if they have faith.
I believe Hell is simply being separated from God for eternity. The torture is brought on by yourself, with the burden of that knowledge. At the same time, I have a hard time believing that a gracious, forgiving and loving God would send his children away from him. If you believe that Jesus died for the sins of humanity, and that all one must do to be saved is believe, then the only people who would be cast into Hell are the unbelievers. Then the question becomes, would they even realize they were there?

Why did God not tell Adam he would suffer eternal torment in Hell?God told Adam that he would die the day he ate of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Why did God not tell him that he would also suffer eternal torment in Hell?
