      I have only the slightest inkling of what a shamanic hermetic witch is. As in, I have a vague idea that the universe is more than huge and there's more in it than I can imagine.
      
      Could you elaborate a teeny weeny bit on what a shamanic hermetic witch is? I googled it and it sounds mostly like just good ol' witchcraft, incantations and spells. Is there more to it than that?

   I'm new to the Wicca beliefs. Actually led there through research for a fictional book I am writing. It opened up a fountain for me of information that I am still trying to process.

      The book of Revelations talks about believers receiving a new name as well. It's in a lot of religious culture. Symbolism of freeing one's self from the old former, fettered self to the "new creature." Powerful imagery and very often effective.

       The reference is Rev. 2:17. Some religions actually use this as a sacred rite of passage in giving the subject a new name, thus an heir to the Kingdom of God.

    Thanks Daniel I had actually found it while I couldn't access the site. Definitely interesting that they would be given a new name written on a white stone much like the victors of the gladiator games were given stones and thus retired from the games.
    
    I think whether we want to quote scripture or read the ancient textual references to pagan acts much is still intertwined together no matter how you look at it.
