Are we ready for a visitation by Aliens? What would we do if they came?

If Aliens were to come to Earth tomorrow, offering technology and knowledge, how do you think we would treat them?

I think an alien visitation would be catastrophic if it happened right now. If it was a hostile visitation, they would probably destroy us without much effort (considering they had the technology to get here in the first place). If it was a peaceful visitation, then a great deal of people would distrust the aliens, simply because they're different. World leaders might make some of the right decisions, but there would be rampant racism, conspiracy theories and outward hostility towards these mysterious beings. The only instance where I can imagine humanity reacting well to aliens, is if we find them first, either by traveling to their world or discovering them with a telescope.

Aliens are already here. Just look around. I'm sure you know someone that you question if they are human.

I think we as a whole are not ready for that.  How can we accept aliens when we can't accept ourselves and others?  We as the human race have a long way to go, and I think that aliens would be intelligent enough to know that we would foolishly use their alien technology for our own selfish reasons like money and war.

As far as how we would treat the aliens, it would be like anything else different.
For the most part fear and panic would be the first round, interest would be the second, then ultimately wanted to experiment on them and claim that they compromise public safety.

I think we would be the one to start a war, not them.

I personally would welcome aliens, yet I would remain cautious.

Here is a hub I wrote which shows the view I have on Aliens....http://highvoltagewriter.hubpages.com/hub/Aliens-Demons-and-Me
I have strong belief that "something else" is pretending to be a alien race!

We may never be ready for a visitation by Aliens. If they offer us help, I'm sure we'll accept it and then, probably use it against them and invade their homes under flimsy justifications. And wars yes, not just with them but we'll cause it even among ourselves. It will be a major catastrophe.
As humans, until we help each other and sort our records right- I personally think we don't deserve any help from space. If these Aliens were advanced enough to reach us, then I'm sure they'll be aware of our self-destructive nature too- they'll probably pull back or stay away from our blue planet and warn everyone else too. (Sorry, I seem quite riled!)
Movies (with a few exceptions) often portray Aliens in a bad light - it's a mirrored reflection. We'd be the same if we 'visit' other planets.
A hostile visitation is more conceivable - we may not stand a chance, given our lack of technology but I guess, with the right caution and UNITY- we could have a shot at creating an overall peaceful stasis.

Hey Voronwe. I agree with you when you say that we don't deserve help from Aliens and we would probably only use it against them anyway. However, I don't think a species with capabilities of traveling thousands of light years will be warlike.

I don't believe in aliens from other planets.  My reason for believing this is, God created the universe and each one of us, however, there is no mention in the bible that He created life forms on other planets.

Yes, but what if each inhabited planet has its own version of the bible in addition to its own god. Therefore they too would believe that they were alone. Perhaps when it is said that god created everything, it was only referring to THIS planet?

we are not ready for alien technology we are a racist race by nature. why do u think that that aliens have not shown themselves to us yet?  we cant accept other races of our own kind so they know we wont accept them yet till then they will not make themselves know. i know that they are already here because i have seen a ufo a couple times and i know that we dont have the technology to move the way that craft moved.  if they showed us we would proberly capture them and experiment on them and try to take their technology and use it to destroy ourselves with it over stupid religen look at what we are doing with nooks!

Honestly I cannot speak for the group of humans.  I would pray that our leaders whould handle the situation appropiately based on the knowledge and resources that we have at our disposal.

I personally would be ready.  If the aliens are nice, that would be great, if they are not nice then what will happen will happen.  Either way I do not worry because I know that I do not live forever, I just want to die happy.

    Best wishes.
