How can it be that having been brought up in a Cult, that named itself a Church affect one?
Does it in some cases carry on into adulthood? What are the symptoms that show themselves psychologically in many who break free?
i was brought up in the united pentecostal church...which many have compared to a cult. i think that many of the upc churches are indeed "cultish" but many of them are not. the cult-type churches make the non-cult type churches look bad.
as far as affecting someone as an adult...well, i have recently been diagnosed with ptsd, major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (to name a few)...oh, and i was sexually molested by a man who attended the church.
i know that the things that happened to me in my childhood have greatly affected my growth into an adult. some of the ideals get burned into the head and heart so deep that it is hard to get past it an live a normal live...whatever that is.
