What does joy mean to you?

People often say, "Don't let them steal your joy!"  Do you have joy and if so what helps it sustain?  How do you continue experiencing true joy even when things seem to be falling apart around you?

You've asked an important question Renee. Joy is having contentment despite  circumstances. It doesn't stop one from expressing emotions/ feelings when going through painful situations. But joy sustains and makes one secure that "it is well." I believe joy comes from knowing that God is eternally on the throne and no matter what happens, he is able to restore and mend us. Joy is not happiness, because the latter depends on circumstances. There is a song that says..."the joy of the Lord is my strength" . . .  And we always need strength especially during tough times.

    Thanks.

You're right on, Eunice!   Joy is an innate quality of our essential spirit, the loving, compassionate God-part of us all.   It is a spontaneous experience not dependent on circumstances.

Joy to me is an equilibrium that consists of a good mood or disposition that all is well and kosher. I think it rests upon faith and belief in self, no matter what is going on around you. It is easy for people to knock it off kitler but you have to get it back. You can't let people and circumstances take it from you. Go back to your faith and belief in your self and God's power within you to maintain that steady joy.

Hello Renee and Eunice. I really would like to say something really prophetic, maybe astounding, or a tad of a wise lean. However, I do not think I can. At this given moment this is the second question I have answered. That is joy to me - Now. I haven't words to explain why. Who knows. I haven't published anything since Halloween night for various reasons. I have a hankering to write a poem. That is joy, so maybe tonight.

Joy is that when you lost in something without thinking about anything or anyone. Just enjoying the moment of your life. Joy is that when you are you and can feel the comfort. Just be yourself without hesitation and do whatever you want. Be happy smile

Joy is having my family around me.

My wife's smile gives my joy in the beginning of the day.

My children's happiness gives me joy for the rest of my life. Building up a family is the joy that can never disappear.

    Hi ReneeDC,
I always feel most joyful when I'm engaging in something that is creative, whether it is a building project, artwork or sitting down to create my next hub. The constructive activity always makes me feel good and I use it as a therapy whenever I start feeling blue. One cannot stay depressed for very long if they force themselves to get out and become active.

Joy was the name of my friend's golden retriever and 43 years ago when I was 20 I bought this beautiful pair of Florsheim leather shoes that cost me two weeks pay. I wore them once and then Joy ate them.

Joy is a shedding of all the false importance we give things in our lives. It's the realization that it is enough to just wonder at the miracle of existence and be a part of it. Knowing life is a journey and adventure without destination, boundaries, deadline or even purpose. It is a feeling of the truth of your real freedom to write your own life story. It is the celebration of just being alive and conscious.

And then to have a son who embodies all this.

Joy, to me is those little moments.

You know the moments when you realize that you could
Just dance because of all the freedom you feel.

That moment when you don't worry about a thing, you just smile and feel wonderful.

It's joyful moments that make life worthwhile for me.
