Was the Messiah really born on Christmas Day?
At that time of the year in Israel, the weather would not permit farmers out in the field to tend their sheep. Could the Messiah have been born during autumn?
It's well known that the celebration of christmas has nothing to do with the time of Jesus' birth. It was a pagan celebration originally for the winter solstice. When Christianity became the official religion of rome, they combined Christian celebrations with pagan festivals in order to make christianity more palpable to the pagan majority. Instead of forcing the pagans to give up their religious and cultural traditions, they combined them. This is also the celebration of Easter, Halloween etc. Almost all christian holidays have pagan roots beneath them.
No he was not. Christmas day was chosen to celebrate his birthday because it closely coincided with the more popular celebratory "Sun Day."
No. As JMcFarland has already mentioned, it stems from pagan celebrations during the winter solstice. It has been said that Jesus was probably born in the spring or summer months.
No. Sun Day was a celebrated holiday and very popular and that is where the Christmas date came from. Read Chasing the Sun by Richard Cohen. Most Christians like to regard all religions not there own as "pagan." Truth is ALL religions are pagan.
Nope! And I have written a hub about this....."The Evolution of Christmas." Many scholars believe that He lived during the spring or early summer, when the "lambs were in the filed." However, why should it matter? There is nothing in scripture that suggest that Christians should even celibate Christ birth.

We know it is not possible for someone to still be walking in the wilderness for 40 days so this is evidence that this event didn't really happen. Where did the number of 40 come from?
