How can one best live a life devoted to the service of others, the upliftment of mankind?
By helping someone else in a small way everyday.
Don´t give them anything, teach them something useful. Jesus din´t give people money of material things to help them. He gave them spiritual advice on how to live their life and touched them with faith.
The servie of others comes from within us. Everything we do must be with others in mind whether it is buying groceries or going to a movie. I know that sounds silly but take buying groceries...in many stores now there are bins for local food banks or other places food is donated to. It doesn't take much to drop a can of food in the bin.
Walks for Cancer or the Cure, donating your used clothing, helping the older gentleman across the street, volunteering at a soup kitchen. The ways we can help others are limitless and we can devote ourselves to providing for others whenever we can. No one is in a position to devote their entire life, except people like Mother Theresa so we are left to do it in small ways every day.
Both beautiful answers. God is the root and humanity are its branches. I perceive David's to be marginally closer to the root. Both great answers.
