Where in the Bible does it say that you must confess your sins to be forgiven?
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 (King James Version)
Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.
Are any of these confessions wire tapped to the police or the church police?
For too many of us have all kinds of sex, and out of wedlock.
They were coming a lot of people, confessing public, their sins.
James (iakove) 5;16
Confess to each other your sins and pray for each other to be cure.
1 John 1;9
If we confess our sins God will forgive us.
It may say to confess your sins but it never says to any outside source such as a church or another person. Since God Is Within us we can only confess to God, whom is Within us.
It means to confess our sins to God
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
But once we confess
Then we have to do away with sins
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
These are all very helpful. Thank you all for taking the time to answer.

Not...

What do you make of John 20:19-23?Most particularly I was working on a sermon on this and this line hit me in a new light, like a ton of bricks: 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”My thoughts are that man can...

The concept that Jesus (PBUH) died for the SINS of Mankind (Original Sin/Blood Atonement) runs contrary to not only rational thinking and common sense, but more importantly, to the teachings...

Christians do you believe all sin is equal? This morning I received a text from a christian friend stating that sin was sin. She was implying that a rapist is equal to his victim in god's eyes if the victim doesn't forgive because they are both sinning. Is this the common Christian belief?

Why do we need to confess our sins to a priest? Can't we do it directly to God? What's the difference?
