Are there any atheists in the house?
Is it me or are there loads of religious people around here? I am an atheist. Is anyone else?
Yes hun, there are many of us here!! Honestly I think there are more vocal atheists in the Q and A section of HP than there are Christians at times. We have a wonderful selection of atheists, agnostics, humanists, and Wiccans here. It's a rather diverse group after you spend some time reading through the site.
There are a few of us! Depends on the day as to who is more vocal really - us or the religious folk.
We have a fine selection of atheists, agnostics, agnostic atheists, humanists and pagan people here. Some are life long atheists, others are ex-religious or ex-Christian, one I know of even has a degree in Theology prior to becoming atheist.
What is happening though - is that we are ALL being grouped into one with atheists etc that may be more vocal, have political aspects to their atheism, are possibly not as tactful as they could be, or are downright rude.
Just as all religious people are different, and unique to themselves even being the same religion as another - so are atheists - and I'm not completely certain that some people realise that - that just because Atheist A says this about The Bible, that Atheist B must be the same, when in fact Atheist B doesn't feel that way at all.
Aside from that - just wanted to say - you are not alone.
Thank you for pointing out that other atheists should be more tactful and less rude. I know you probably mean me too in that respect, but it's good to know your opinion.
Lybrah thre are also some of us who are christian but not a churchian and part agnostic as Jesus was too. I do not go dividing who is what. I like just about anyone around here and understand that everyone has their own life experiences accordingly
Lybrah - it's just I get tired of being lumped in with some who are disrespectful. Yes, there are Christians or other religious who could be less rude and more tactful - no one group is better or worse than the other.
Agnostic atheist
I usually tend to see the same atheist/non believer faces in discussions. Almost always see a new religious face though. Wouldnt say there are tons of them, but certainly a decent amount.
I've encountered quite a few atheists in my time here. Some have come and gone, while others prefer to hang back. I'll admit that talking about it can get exhausting. I love talking about science and philosophy, but most conversations here follow the same format:
Atheists are this.
No we're not.
Yes you are.
No we're not.
Yes you are...
And so on and so forth. So, just know that we're all here, even if we don't have the energy to speak up every day.
There are. Some are devout, others not. I shed earlier skins, pupated and have finally emerged, a fully formed atheist at last.
I'm an atheist. I have started dipping my toes into the answers section just recently. I may or may not be active here in the future. I don't need to court stress but sometimes I just feel the need to try to pop some stereotype bubbles.

I think not. Some say that they just aren't sure, but they figure "I'm a good person, so if there is, I'm fine". I'd say that person is actually a theist.Others say they don't know and don't care. They never think about any possible rewards or punishmentts. They are actually atheists.I say...

Why Do Religious People Get So Angry At Atheists? When it comes to Atheism, most religious people get angry and even combative when it comes to this subject. I wonder why, especially in this day and age, one would feel anger towards another human being with a different perception/outlook/belief....

Does it make me close minded if I can't understand why people are atheists?I guess how is the better way to say it. I seriously question everything...like facts from history, ect...but for some reason Ive never questioned religion. I grew up in a Christian home, not a SUPER Christian home, but one...

Why do those who routinely ask questions to provoke atheists/agnostics do so?Some people here and elsewhere seem to constantly need to question atheists, only to not listen to the answers and belittle the very people they are asking questions of. Is that because they feel threatened by atheists?...

What is a good religion for an atheist to start with?

What do you know about atheists or agnostics? Please be frank and honest. I will only delete answers that do not answer the question, so no proselytizing for your religion! You may link to valid resources, but you may not copy/paste an answer. Use your own words and thoughts about what you know...
