Many churches have Psychologist and or Psychiatrists on staff Is this accceptable to scripture?

Many modern churches have psychological counsellors, Psychologist or Psychiatrists on staff ,  call or referral.     Does scrpture cindone this practice?

To my knowledge, scripture does not condone the use of Psychiatrists.  In fact, I believe it goes against the Word of God.  Jesus never tried to counsel a devil out of a person.

I will also add, God will give people what they ask for, if they are persistent in asking, whether good for them or bad.  Israel wanted a king and God gave them one.  Saul ended up causing a lot of heartache to the Israelites.

Great answer.   Yes Jesus said we are to crucify our flesh (psyche), not understand it

Collasians 4:14 is very troubling then as psychiatrists are physicians of the flesh (psyche)

Thank you Eric for bringing that to my attention.  The psyche has to do with the mind of a man.  They call Psychiatrists doctors, but a physician is a doctor of fleshly diseases.  They treat the body, not the mind.

Eric -only to those who do not know how to interpret scripture.   Flesh is talking about the natural carnal man, the essence of the man, not the meat on the body.  Crucify the natual man feed the spiritual one

Luke was certainly a physician and a dearly loved one at that. Truly he was a member of the church.

Eric - yes he was a brother, and loved.    That is the measure not his occupation.   WHAT CHURCH?   BY BEING A BROTHER HE BECOMES THE CHURCH (Part of Christ's body) do you think they had a building like the modern apostates that they call the church?

Off topic already?  No one is denying that Luke was a physician or a brother in Christ.  The question was about psychiatrists being used in the Church to counsel.  Psychiatrists are taught according to the ways of the world, not God.

Celafoe -- Psychiatrists are physicians and have worked for years with the church. Luke was the physician to Paul as he makes clear "our beloved". Guidance counselors are different as are psychologists. Ministering to the sick is a worthy calling.

Eric -are you aware that psychology was not everecognized until mid 20th century.   I know, after several years of debating you that you have a mixture you believe, but it is just not scriptural and i am concerned for the young that you say you teach

The reason the modern churches have them on staff is that they are specially qualified to concoct the opiate for the masses. The more they are allowed to gloss the eyes of the people, the more money will fall into the offering plates. These are among the clergy class who are hired by the church elite to control their minions.

Those in the church system claim to follow Scripture, but in their actions defy it. Psychologists and Psychiatrists are trained in the secular practices of the world and will use their secular psycho therapies and pop psychology on their own church members for a fee.

There are no hirelings in the body of Christ, just servants.

The bible says - We are ALL to be counselors for one another and especially to counsel those in prison. And yes, I do believe that having a professional that has studied in a university is acceptable for counseling individuals seeking guidance for enlightenment. . Lets be very simple here and use an analogy - of a "fork" for example. An individual can see  this is a fork, yet if they are not counseled  "give enlightenment" - they may not know what is is used for - it is simply a fork. One must learn it is used to place food upon and then moved to your mouth to eat! Professional have the ability to aid those who are lost - not to say others can not- but with serious issues - they can offer "tools" to help the lost...Do I think they should be on a pay roll...no- pro bono is the way!

check  my hub -- http://celafoe.hubpages.com/hub/The-Tru … the-Church   NO minister led by the Holy Spirit would use psychology, but those that serve the churches of men , instead of Christ do, churchian hirelings, not CHrist led.

I've searched NASB, NKJV, NIV for "we are ALL to be counselors" and can't find it.  The part about being professionally trained by man I know isn't there, but not sure about all are counselors.  A little help please?

eddy- the scripture ( jn 16:3 from the NT ) you use shows that the only wise council is from the Holy Spirit,    The OT scriptures were from before the Holy Spirit was sent to lead us into all truth.   in OT men were
between man and God, not in NT

I realize the mistake I made asking for scripture. People that minister to the flesh have a mill stone with their name on it waiting.
