If you don't believe in God, why does it matter to you if others do?

Seems to me the planet's orbit makes evolutionary progression impossible.

I can only speculate.  Not all people who don't believe in god actually care if people do.  Others may be lifelong "believers" who, for one reason or another, no longer believe.  I like to think things out and write about my thought process on the whole god thing.  A Christian throughout grade school and high school, for one reason ore another (no attacks or arguments) I found myself questioning everything I had been taught.

I commend you for asking such a question in such a touchy topic.  I recently read another hub (“Godless: Negative View of Atheism As Old As Faith” by Evylyn Rose) that wondered why such negativity has been assigned to those who do not believe in god (negativity of godless).  I am surprised no one has attacked or argued.

    Awesome question.

I'm Pagan and don't believe in the Christian God but I do not push people into my religion or try to sway them from theirs. Your question is a very good one but is directed in a broad term range. I used to be Christian and just from personal experience can tell you that almost every Christian person I know will be very adamant with their religion. Similar to the door to door people that offer you pamphlets to come to their church. I have known more people in my life that believe in the Christian God and are trying to convince everyone to do the same than non-Christian people. (Although I do know that there are some places and organizations of non-Christians who do their share of convincing.)
I believe that it all boils down to how you were raised. People who refuse to let you have your own opinion and beliefs and who have to waste their time convincing you to believe in theirs are very ignorant, arrogant, and selfish.
This whole situation (the who believes in who situation) should not even be as big of a deal as it is today. Think of it this way: if someone doesn't like your hair color and they tell you, what do you say back? I know that I would say something like "don't look at it if you don't like it". The same goes for favorite foods and favorite colors. No body wastes time trying to convince you to like their food or color as much as they try to convince you about their religion because they know that they are not going to get anywhere. We all need to look at the religious matter in the same way. "If you don't like it, don't practice it" and leave it at that.
In this modern world, everyone is different and we all have to just learn to accept that and move on because past your favorite food, your favorite color, what color your hair is, or what "God", if any, that you pray too, you can still be that nice, fun loving, best friend kind of person. Most of our generations are just raised to be ignorant and arrogant causing them to throat cram their beliefs on other people.

Its amazing to me how this country was founded under ( One nation under God) yet religion in schools is starting to cause problems?! If America is a freedom of religion based country why are people trying to take our right to praying in school away. If you are not a believer simply do not participate. Christians do try to force their beliefs on others so why can we force our beliefs on them, but non believers cant? A lot of science has proved many areas of the bible right, yet proved many areas wrong. People are allowed to wonder. i believe in a higher power I call God but believe the path to heaven is much like KARMA. I HAVE YET TO FIND ONE RELIGION I FULLY AGREE WITH!!! I live life with the intent of being a good person not because God might be watching, but simply because I believe in treating others how I want to be treated. I do not attend church mainly because i feel people put on a fake persona.

Nonbelievers tend to get stuck on the evidence that certain parts of the bible just don't add up. It's not that they don't believe in God its just hard to believe in something without full on proof. If God doesn't exist oh well at least I lived a good clean life.... If he does thank goodness I was a good hearted person because now I can rejoice with him.

If religion played no part in this, I would see no reason why it would bother someone if others believe in God, but unfortunately most religions have the ability to brainwash people (even into killing in the name of God). I agree with some previously posted comments that it can be done for a number of reasons:
-because you are sorry for the "believers"
-you want people to reason versus believe in fairytails
-you want to protect yourself and your loved ones from fanatics that religion can create
    And of coarse
-there are always those that want to convince everyone of their opinion (in this case that there is no God)

I think our civilization is at a point were we are ready to let go of organized religion and make an individual and educated choice of what we believe...

My fiance is an athiest and everytime I mention anything about God he is quick to respond with "God doesn't exist" I don't care what he believes or doesn't believe but I think it's annoying when I can't even finish my sentence because he feels he needs to butt in with that. Honestly all the preaching is partially what led me to leave Christianity. I felt that if you have to be convinced its right, it's not right for you. That and people didn't care if I was a christian because I wasn't their kind of christian.

For me, it is not that I have a problem with those who believe in god, buddah, allah, frogs, eight armed deities etc... The problem is when a small sect of people use their ideologies as a political philosophy for espousing how things ought to be. Religion has been hijacked to advance an ideology, consequently what we are seeing now is a backlash to years of a small group of "fundamentalist" christians using religion as an all or nothing preposition, which also consequently is not fair to christians and non-christians alike. Beleive whatever you want, and let others do the same. To thine own self be true, and remember...the deity is in all of us.

The best part is that you did not need the illusion of "I" to explain it. The downfall of the statement came with "self" and any inclination that the past has anything to do with now. If our views are not willed or muscled, the past and future become unimportant.

Nature abhors a vacuum. If there is a vacuum, nature will rush in and fill the empty space. You might say, with a Big Bang.

It has been my experience over many years that no one talks so incessantly about God as the one who claimed He does not exist.

I have yet to have anyone knock on my door and try to convince me to fill their collection plate because God doesn't exist.  I've never seen anyone stand on a street corner shouting that He doesn't exist.  I've never even seen a sign or billboard declaring the non-existence of a god.  I've never had a single person in a discussion suddenly declare that "God isn't real" when the topic has nothing to do with a god.

The reverse of these, however, is hard to get away from and happen constantly.

Not ACCURATELY knowing about God and who He is and what His purpose is for you, mankind and the earth with all its life forms will cost one their life. One has to ACCURATELY come to know who Jesus truly is as well (John 17:3, 1st Timothy 2:4)

There are those who SEEMINGLY don't believe in God, but deep down inside their heart and mind they do believe in God. And so as a result they encourage others to believe in God.

Perhaps they at one time experienced God's loving, helping hand in their life and they may yearn to return back to God and His favor. Or they are on their way back to serving and worshipping God unbeknownst to us or the human eye. Only Jehovah God sees the heartfelt, positive, small steps that one may be taking to restore their close relationship with Him that they once had. God knows this person still loves Him. While on the outside observance of others it may not look like it, but only God can read their heart.
